How does Uncle Jesse pass away in the movie or did they............... .

How does Uncle Jesse pass away in the movie or did they even bother explaining how it happend? i haven't seen this tv movie either.

The second Dukes Reunion movie does not explain in any detail about Uncle Jessie's passing. There was a line in the movie that mentioned Jesse, but it was about a recipe, and that was it. At the end of the movie though, there was a dedication to Denver Pyle.

Yah they don't even mention that he died until the last line in the movie. Until that time I was thinking he was just working the back 40.

The only mention to Unlce Jesse is when they talk about the BBQ sauce. Cooter said Jesse said the secret ingredient was PS, and that's why he only got 2nd place, because he could not figure out what it was. Peach skins? Pond scum? The world will never know.

reply

Actually, they state that the secret ingredient is pickled scuppernongs (scruppernongs are a cultivated type of muscadine grape). Enos is eating a jar of them when the tow truck lady and Cooter are trying their respective recipes, and when Eros mentions the name "pickled scuppernongs," it hits Cooter what PS means in the recipe stands for.

Denver Pyle died on Thursday, December 25, in Burbank, California. i got this from this site http://www.jimnolt.com/Pyle.htm it tells he dide on christmass thats sad tho uncle jessie was a good charactor he will be missed

reply

Yes, kcashon is absolutely correct about the scuppernongs being the "P.S." in the secret sauce recipe. This was explained at the end but I imagine a lot of people missed it.

qrz94, although they didn't come right out and explain how Uncle Jesse died, they did in fact say, very early on, that Cooter "inherited" the sauce recipe from Uncle Jesse. Since you generally inherit something from someone who's passed, it was quite clear to me from the start that Jesse was gone.

I imagine the reason they didn't spend too much time on Uncle Jesse's passing is that it's kind of a downer. And this TV movie, even more than the original series, was really lighthearted and silly. It would have been pretty out of place to have a sad, sentimental scene or heavy dialogue in this film.

They do mention that Uncle Jesse died, just not directly.

At the "Southern Block Party", as I call it, the "Balladeer" says, "Uncle Jesse would have loved this,", and it would pretty straight on statement that Uncle Jesse died.

I think the reason Uncle Jesse's death was not explained in detail was to avoid anything that would possibly depress viewers.

Denver Pyle died on Christmas Day, 1997, which was not long after the initial airing of the first reunion movie. I'd imagine that, assuming that the first reunion movie was set in 1997 as well, that he probably died not too long after the events of the movie and so those circumstances were long over by the 2000 Hazzard in Hollywood reunion movie. I'm not sure about the not wanting to depress viewers part cause in the first reunion movie, James Best is given a scene where Rosco talks to a painting of Boss Hogg and laments that he so wishes J.D. was there with him. I'd say that was a touching (possibly sad) scene. I figure there wasn't more said about Uncle Jesse than what was in the movie was because it probably just didn't fit with the plot and story of the movie.

Like was said earlier, "Cooter" 'inherited' the recipe......As for "Uncle Jesse's" 'passing', That's kind of like talking about your grandfather or dad passing on...you don't want to dwell on it, otherwise you bog yourself down with memories & sorrow.
