Is this based on a true story?

I was just wondering if this was based on a true story?

I'm not sure. I know one thing, it has elements of several wealth related murders. The wife taking the step-daughter to a bar and not letting her leave is reminiscent of another case which escapes me at the moment. If I remember it I'll post back.

I finally found it. It's similar to the Werner Hartmann murder, though also very different. For example I believe there was an ex-wife involved, she didn't die like in the movie. Then he was rich due to the success of his buisness, he wasn't a doctor and the daughter was never accused.

As I said, it has elements of different cases but the Werner case had a trophy wife, when it was time for a divorce he spoke to the insurance guy who never changed the beneficiaries, her boyfriend helped (who worked at a tennis club and not the golf club) and so forth.

You can read all about it here:
http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/notorious_murders/family/dd_werner_ hartmann/1.html

Keep in mind that the articles located there contain quite a few embellishments by the authors, but for the most part they're accurate.

Anyway, I KNEW it was familiar and it drove me nuts last night trying to think of it. Glad I finally got it.

Yes, it is based on a true story, however in real life the sisters were set on fire, mainly at their feet but the step-mom saved them but the sisters had to leave the crime scene in stretchers to go to the hospital due to their burns. Marci is in prison but is eligible for parole by 2023.

I TV shows on DVD!!!

Is Marci connected to the Hartmann case? Or is it another case?
