Fran today

I know from reading the book that many of these people brilliantly portaryed in the corner have passed. Does anyone know or may have read what has become of Fran? Her story was quite harrowing and certainly an inspiration.

reply

No idea, but she was in an episode of The Wire (season 3).

I'd really like to find out more as to what happened to many of them (not just Fran). Deandre in particular. It was so sad when he started using. He seemed so tough, I thought he was going to escape that life. Strange, this story makes you care so much about the people involved. I saw it when it came out 6 years ago and periodically check it out from the library. It's very moving.

Grrrrrr!!Aaargh!!

reply

DeAndre plays Brother Muzone's helper (or whatever) in the third season of The Wire. Fran is in season three (or maybe four, I can't remember). Tyreeka also has a role in season four of The Wire.

I'd start with that show if you're looking for where most of them are now.

reply

Wait, the real life DeAndre is Lamar? I thought he looked familiar but that's really good to know. I think I remember seeing Tyreeka too somewhere. She got paid something to give a gangster some sort of information, from what I remember.

reply

What about DeRodd? He might have escaped "the game" since Fran stopped using when he was still pretty young, but they never even show or mention him on the DVD when they feature the real Fran and DeAndre.

reply

I'm sure that he's worked behind the cameras on S5 of the Wire, I read it in an article somewhere...if I find it I'll post it here.

I just finished watching The Corner. I'm so glad to read that Fran is still clean and living a decent life.
So sad that Gary couldn't get out of it and finally died. He had at one time made good in his life but drugs destroyed it.
Drug addiction is a terrible place to be. I have 20 years clean and know that I am blessed to have escaped certain death and destruction.

reply

I agree michalrose-1. I have been clean from heroin for almost 10 years and this show just brought it all back. I believe God was watching out for me and makes shows like this to show that it doesn't get any better out there.

You are a goddamn liar. In fact, more than that StrikeTeam2010, you are a slandering piece of trash.
I know Fran Boyd. She is my friend. I see her all the time. And while she has some health problems lately, none of it is related to addiction. She is drug free and she is a rock to not only her immediate family, but to the nieces and nephews for whom she has become custodial guardian, the oldest of which is college bound. This is why the internet is NOT a source of honest information, because of self-important scum like this who will trash someone just for the fun of it.

You heard from a reliable source? Who you don't name?

Journalists require two confirming sources. And if it is information that is libel per se (and what you have written here is libel per se) then the sources would need to be named.

But here on the internet, where you can go by StrikeTeam2010 and NOT GIVE YOUR NAME OR THAT OF YOUR ALLEGEDLY RELIABLE SOURCE, you can anonymously slander anyone. What Fran used to do is an open book, citing it here, now, shows you have some history with her and some petty resentments from the past and you WANT her to fall.

Guess what? Spent the 4th with her and her family watching the fireworks. And Thursday night, she and her husband appeared at a benefit for "Why Murder?" his prospective program for violence-intervention that had its first fundraiser. No sign of anything other than a woman who put herself back together piece by piece over years and is now working to bring her family through, fully employed by Bon Secours doing drug outreach until her recent medical leave, which was necessary for spinal surgery.

But here you come with your unnamed reliable source and your pettiness. You're a liar. And a rumor mongering coward. And if you thought about what an honest threshold should be for claiming bad things about other people in print, you would be deeply ashamed. And if I'm lying, you'll write back and give your correct name and the name of your 'source' and the proof of what you claim.

But I'm not lying. And shame is beyond you and your kind. That much is now clear.

Isnt fran married to the Omar inspired stickup artist that also the wire as one of Omars guys who helps him in prison and dies in the final season in the failed hotel shoot out.

Also DeAndre passed of a drug overdose yesterday.

reply

I heard she is married to the guy the Omar character was partly about. I am glad she is doing good. And I hope she has many fruitful years ahead of her. It is a very hard thing to get off of drugs. I lived with a heroin addict and after 20 years he seems to have gotten off it with the help of the VA, but then got killed in a auto accident.
