Is this as good as 'The 60s' series?

I just saw The 60s and really liked it a lot. I saw this show seems to have different creators, and am wondering if this series is great as well. Any opinions from people who have seen both?

Thanks,
Brian

Nah, I don't think it is. But you should check it out anyway, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Hey, thanks for the response.

I saw it back in July or August. I can't remember how it compares to The 60s, but I remember thinking it was still pretty good.

reply

Yea, it aint bad, but not as good as the 60s

reply

not as good as The 60's was, but it's pretty darned close. Amy Smart is so pretty in this miniseries and there a lot of cool music.

I read that you already saw it, but I wanted to answer your question anyway. I've seen both series, and "The 60's" is far better than "The 70's". They had the same way of moving through their respective stories, but the second series seemed too choppy and didn't explore all the characters fully. Also, while the acting was good, the music that accompanied the scenes made it sound, and look, like a soap opera. It just didn't seem as well produced as the first series; but it did cover some of the main issues revolving around the decade. If you do watch it again, make sure you record it on your DVR or TiVo beforehand, b/c the commercial breaks are unbelievable! It'll be on this week on VH1.

I liked the 70's A LOT more than the 60's. That's just my opinion of course.

The 60's end with a *beep* ending imo. The 70's end in a happy ending.

reply

That's one of the main problems I had with this ending: the whole happy go lucky Hollywood type ending. It was so fake that that girl got unbrainwashed just like that after being in a cult for so long and of course someone had to get married just like in some cheesy romance novel (gag me!)
The 60s ended a bit more realistically.

I still pray for Lindsey Lohan.

Ugh... I havcn't watched this movie since I was in high school. (Watched it in our 1960's class actually) and it was aweful this time around!! cheesy acting and every effing scene was blasted with music! like they could tell the movie sucked so they stuck alot of music in it to drown it out.

~I love the rhythm it is my methoood!~

reply

Not at all. The acting isn't as good and the storytelling lacks any sort of subtlety

The decade of the 60's was more interesting than the 70's, where not much happened. In the 60's, we had 3 major assassinations, a war everyone hated, the counter culture movement, The Beatles and all that great music, plus the space race. The 70's sucked and was boring. Watergate and that was pretty much it.

There was alot more idealism in the 60's and so much more to cover.

Kids definitely partied their asses off both decades, but the difference is when you took LSD in the 60's it was like having a religious experience... when you took LSD in the 70's it was to get loaded.

The 70's did produce some great rock bands that took where the 60's artists left off, but I don't remember much about that covered in the show. Concerts where still a big deal back then.

I thought the 70's was a lot better actually. Saw both and was actually more impressed w the 70's. Felt it wrapped around the storyline of the characters much more better. Got you involved and connected with them. Of course that also could have been bc I was undergrad in college at the time and was idealistic activist like byron and wendy. I believed I could just go out there and change the world w my politics. Yeah I'm older now and I do know how the world actually works. But i still love the movie.
