the movie would be cool
i think this game should be turned into a movie it would be very awesome right?
if its a cool game it might be a cool movie or that couldv'e been what dungeons and dragons was

Yeah i agree aye i would like the main character to be some kind of spell caster and fighter. And for casting i'd think that
Keldorn-Sean Connery
Sarevok-Kevin Michael Richardson
Jaheira- Julie Andrews????
dono bout ne1 else but it would b cool 4 a party like :
P.C fighter/mage type
Sarevok (maybe if ther was like an triolgy
keldorn
imoen
jaheira
minsc
yeah that sounds wicked awesome pierce brosnon or someone like him could be irenicus but who could be bodhi
"your wit be as sharp as my blade shall we exchange jabs or will you cease your battle" montaron
I wouldn't want anybody but David Warner to play Irenicus. He is the highest paid (and maybe Jim Cummings) to apear in Baldurs Gate, it would be a waste not to get him back.

Plus There's No Real Hero In BGII, Just The One You Create Yourself.
http://www.freewebs.com/666_blindguardian_ironmaiden_666
It's strange that someone mentioned Sean Connery as Keldorn, I downloaded some portraits from the portrait portal and always use one of Sean Connery for Keldorn.
I agree, David Warner would have to be Irenicus, that voice is just too perfect to change. I still find it weird seeing him in other things as I always picture Irenicus.
As for other casting,
how about rose mcgowan as imoen, and maybe katherine heigl as jaheira.
Keldorn portrait reminds me a lot of George Clooney, but older.
Valygar IS Vin Diesel with hair. VD could play Valygar if he ever appears.
Too bad that if there would be a movie of BG, it would be based on the books based on the game, which absolutely suck.
How about a movie of Icewind Dale? The Crystal Shard? The Hunter's Blade Triology (that'd be really cool, but only with an R rating)?
"You feel like a dog?"
"No, I feel like sh itting on the sidewalk." - The Singing Detective
If there was a film, i would hope David Warner was Irenicus, but if he declined... can anyone else see Alan Rickman in the role?
Icewind Dale would probably make a better film, since the storyline is far more linear, but the games on a whole are far less interesting due to that fact (and the fact that you create your entire party, not joining with some amusing NPC's).
If they did do BG as a film... what would the main character be? Fighter? Monk? Shapeshifter? (Ad nauseum...) thinking about it, on the off chance there was a film made, does anyone think it would work if the company making the film had an online poll, where people could suggest what race, class, alignment and so on that they'd like the main character to be?
[deleted]
Yes, that's what I always thought. With a TV series, there's much more time to examine characters, locations, subplots and what have you.
Of course, they'd have to stay true to the game, and to my knowledge that has never been done with a computer game to movie/TV project.
The developers should have a very tight grip on the series. Only they could make it so that it becomes what it deserves to be.
If they should go by the 6 man party rule for TV, it would perhaps be the easiest if the main character is a fighter.
The question is how you will explore everything. Basically, you could have a paladin with a priest of Lathander and such for a completely goody-good party, or an evil party that does such things.
But maybe the best route - if there is to be only a single one route - would be to have different characters that contradict each other somewhat. More intrigues that way.

HAHAH!!!
Amazing imagination you have there :D
Lizzy Caplan would so fill Imoen's boots... Also Will ferrel as saemon.... HAHAAHHA!!! Man Im laughing so hard! :D
Spectator was a fun character, david space voicing him: ah perfection.
If a movie was ever made, I hope they'd do a sequel for it (tob)
PS: Will smith as yoshimo... NOT :/
Aerie: Estella Warren
Jan: Danny De-Vito ^^
PS: antonio banderas as minsc? penelope as jaheira?... NO!!!

Why are you listing a bunch of black actors to portray an Asian man?
Kevin Michael Richerdson is excellent as the VOICE of Sarevok, however his physique is all wrong (overweight). Plus his face looks too cherubic and friendly to portray the brutal Sarevok convincingly. Vin Diesel is likely the best choice for a live action Sarevok, as he has the physique, sharp chiseled features of Sarevok, and he is more than capable of playing a total bada$$ (think Riddick).
I wore pants once, but felt it was overrated.
> Why are you listing a bunch of black actors to portray an Asian man?
Because we know no asian actor to fill that part.
---
If you really would be an omnivore, you would consider raw innards a delicacy.
then why list anyone at all?
If you were casting a female part...and couldn't think of any female actors, would you cast a man?
Um Will Smith can definitely do any role that Eddie Murphy can take ... only Smith has more class.
Marlon Wayans is someone who can be brilliant in the worst movies but I have yet to see him in a GOOD movie.
Chris Rock is an actor ??? I thought he's a rockstar...
Who is Adalon ? Man where are you getting all those characters ?
Gyllenhaal as Solaufein - ok
Who the heck is NIZIDRAMANII'YT ???
---
If you really would be an omnivore, you would consider raw innards a delicacy.
> ABDEL - Johnny Depp
Um. WHO is "Abdel" ???
> IMOEN - Lizzy Caplan
I dont know that actor and she honestly looks neither like Imoen nor very beautiful.
> JAHEIRA - Penelope Cruz
Havent seen anything of Cruz yet - but at least optically it wouldnt fit too badly.
> MINSC - Antonio Banderas
Banderas is intelligent. Minsc is stupid. Banderas is sexy. Minsc plays with his hamster. Banderas is the family guy. Minsc swings his sword. And so on. I cant imagine Banderas as Minsc, sorry. Give him the lead role or something.
> YOSHIMO - Will Smith
Yeah I think that would work very well if Smith would agree to take a non-lead and half-evil role.
> ELLESIME - Judi Dench
TOO OLD !!!! BY FAR !!!! WHO wants elves with crinkles ??????
> BODHI - Miranda Otto
Make her Ellesime - and get someone sinister for Bodhi, please.
> ELHAN - Patrick Stewart
Um, who is Elhan ?
> SAEMON - Will Ferrell
LOL - thats a good choice.
> ARAN LINVAIL - Owen Wilson
Aran Linvail ?!? Who is that ? The guy from the thieves guild ? Uh. Such a small role for someone like Wilson.
> GAELAN - Jeff Foxworthy
Dont know either.
> SPECTATOR - David Spade
Um the Spectator Beholder ? I dont know if that joke would be included into the movie. I dont know the actor.
> VALEN - Liv Tyler
Valen ??? Thats a very minor role. I only know her because there is a fanmod which turns her into a party npc. But in the original game she only appears once.
> LASSAL - Alan Rickman
Wait, wasnt Lassal the vampire from the Spellhold dungeon ? Not likely to be included into the movie.
> BRUS - Freddie Highmore
I dont know either.
---
If you really would be an omnivore, you would consider raw innards a delicacy.
Elhan is the Elf Captain/General who you meet when escaping from the Underdark, who gives you the task of defeating Bodhi
Brus is Gaelen Bael's nephew (I think he's his nephew, anyway). Gaelan Bael is the contact in Chapter 2 who you have to earn money for so as to pay for passage to rescue Imoen.
I personally think they could have Chow Yun Fat as Yoshimo.
Also, the Spectator Beholder MUST make it into the film if it was made. Absolute genius.
Not knowing Gaelen Bael seems to point to me that you haven't played this game much....
> Valygar IS Vin Diesel with hair. VD could play Valygar if he ever appears.
I cant get the extremely big ego of Vin Diesel and the silence of Valygar together. Valygar ALWAYS keeps staying in the background.
But maybe Vin Diesel would be a good choice for Minsc. Or at least a decent one.
---
If you really would be an omnivore, you would consider raw innards a delicacy.
> You Think After The D&D Movie, People Would Stop And Think, "Hmmmm, Maybe It's A Bad Idea Making RPGs Into Movies."
You'd think after Star Wars, Alien and Lord of the Rings, people would stop and think "Hmm, maybe is a good idea making fantasy movies".
And Baldurs Gate is, in the end, just that, a fantasy story.
The problem with the DnD movie was that it was utter crap. But that does NOT mean that there is no audience for wellmade fantasy movies.

Yeah, I agree with you. But then again, maybe it's just that we're weird :)
On more serious notice, I really don't think that movie of BG would be a good idea. Mainly because you can't play a movie, and that is what makes movies adaption of games so much less likeable. I would like to see animated series thought. Maybe something along Korgoth of Barbaria type of animation? Serious, but still funny. Maybe they could make it so that PC would have two or three constant companions(Jaheira and Minsc from the beggining, later Imoen would come in when she would be saved, and other NPCs would be added just for their specific quests(Korgan for the looting of the tomb, Valgyar for Planar sphere quest, Keldorn for the Unseeing eye quest,etc...). Certain NPCs could be added for more parts of the series, for example, Viconia could be in the series for the whole Underdark period. Also, animation can take much more than real people. It's much easier to draw something, than to make a whole lot of speciall effects. Cheaper too, I presume. Also, if you divide the game on more parts, you don't have to rush, since you can take your time, and portray characters and situatins more clearly and with passion(wjich is needed in such a great game). How long would a movie be? Three hours? Even if so, I still don't think that would be enought time to put everything that made the game great in the movie. But if you make twenty or episodes of 45 minutes each, that would nest you 15 hours! Now that's more like it. This game isn't meant to be rushed throught, why would movie be any better(or worse, you know what mean)?
What would be good choice for PC? I think paladin would serve that purpose well. He is a knight(of some sort), lawful good(evil PCs are nice, but I think good PC would be better for on screen), and with paladin kits you got some great choice. Now, personally my favourite kit is inquisitor, but since movie or series realization would probablly need more action and drama, I think cavalier would be a best choice for PC. He never gets scared, and even if others do, he can remove that with his special ability. I think that would make for some great scenes when fighting dragons or demons :)
Good side of series would also be there could be original voice acting, presuming all the voice actors from the game are still alive(I haven't checked, so I apologize on this spot if I said something stupid). And if somebody from Bioware and/or Black Isle would check on quality regurally we are almost bound to get a good series out of this. I think David Gaider would be quite perfect for the role of supervisor.
It's just my idea, and I probably not live to see it realized, but I would still like to see if anybody thinks it's actually a GOOD idea? I presented my point of view, I am open for a debate. Tell me if you like it, or would you REALLY rather see the movie? And before you answer, remember on Alone in the dark, House of the dead and Bloodrayne. Yes I know, Uwe well never direct this, but there is still risk, even if negliable. I really don't want this to happen to the, what is by many people, the best game in the world.
I concur. A series, like a 5 season series, I would think. Maybe two season devoted to the first one. Two for Shadows of Amn. And a final season for the expansion. And I certainly agree about keeping certain companions only around for their quests. And then in the expansion season, a number of them can be brought in to help fight for the PC character.
And I do agree about the PC needing to be a good aligned person. Not necessarily paladin; I'm more in favor of just a plain fighter. But good, defitnitely. People would like the character more if her was a protector innocents and nuns, babies, and flowers, as opposed to a blood thirsty warlord that doesn't get along well with the party.
Of course, Imoen, Jaheira, and Minsc would have to be staples of the series as far as NPCs go. However, some characters will have to be killed. The adventuring life is perfect, and some people are beyond a resurrection spell.
I have never seen an Uwe Boll movie, but I know to avoid them like the plague.
And all the voice actors are still around as far as I know. I keep up with a lot of their works. I'd be looking particularly forward to Jim Cummings (Minsc/Grmonir/Gorion) and Grey Delisle(Nalia and Viconia) respectively.
I also agree with animation. No matter how good the animation is or even if it's real life with special effects, nothing beats a well told story.
Surely the problem with this is that everyone who posted here has probably their own preferred version of this game and it's story in their mind and it's that version that each person would want to see.
For example for me the best romance was with Viconia, she was always an intergral character in most of my games and so for me any TV show or film would have to have the Viconia character as a main character(and by her picture Grey DeLisle would be perfect to play her in the flesh for a proper tv series). But there'll probably be other people who could'nt imagine a series that didn't have Aerie or Jaheira as the lead character's romantic interest.
I also really liked Jan Jansen and Mazzy Fentan but other people would probably hate a TV show dominated by Viconia, Jan and Mazzy as lead characters so it would be almost impossible to make a show that all the fans of the game could like.
Yeah, I see what you mean. Jan, Viconia, and Mazzy all happen to be among my favorite characters as well, along with Edwin and Haer'Dalis, but I imagine that's not a particularly popular choice of characters for many people. And Viconia was the best romance, I thought. I never really liked Aerie a whole lot, an Jaheira was sort of the mothering type, which is why I always found her romance wierd and not so much because Khalid had just died. After all, she even tried to not give in to her feelings for the main character at first.
I would suggest going with the main characters that, by canon, would be with the main character.
For example, for the 2nd game, the 1st one assumes that the main PC, Imoen, Jaheira, Khalid, Minsc, and Dynaheir were all present at the end of the game. This isn't to say that there could be more people that were there, but by and large, that's the general idea. And Minsc, Jaheira, and Imoen should all be staples throughout the rest of the series, with other charactersm both old and new, coming and going throughout. And then bring Sarevok into the group for the last part.
But then again, other may not see it like this at all.
"...an Jaheira was sort of the mothering type, which is why I always found her romance wierd and not so much because Khalid had just died. After all, she even tried to not give in to her feelings for the main character at first."
Can you blame her for that? Her husband just died in the hands of a maniac, and now she has a fellings or a man who is partially responsible for his death. To me this looks very confusing situation.
I liked her romance best because of that excact reason. I can't explain it just why, but I know I did. And I think that only if you romance her, the better side of her personality shows up. Sure, Viconia romance was great, and I loved the affect of having a child with Aerie, but none of this two felt as good as Jaheira. PPlus, I'm sucker for blondes :P
I'll admit one of the reasons why I wanted Jaheira to be in the party all times was because of a possible romance with main character. Being old friends counts for lot too, of course.
That doesn't mean romances with Viconia and Aerie need to be excluded. Hell, I think it would add greatly to the effect of the series if there would be some ladies cat fights over protagonist :D Only verbal of course, with all the mafic at their disposal there is better that no fights occurs.
One option is to simply put up a poll, and let players decide which romance they would like to see. I only pray to Helm that on the end Anomen won't come out as a winner :P
EDIT: just one more thing. I definetly agree that Sarevok should be added as permanent team member in ToB portion. He is just to much of a badass mofo, in both personality and fighting skills to be overlooked. Plus, you can redeem him later in the game, which is an extra plus to the story. To me, at least.
Oh don't get me wrong, I thought the romance for Jaheira was very good and well-written. I just meant that I've always seen her as a sort of, and really, the only mother to the main character, and that's why I found having the romance a bit odd, for me personally. Besides, I like Viconia, not so much for her being a drow hottie, but I always found her deep side that we don't typically see to my most liking. Plus, she's voiced excellently by Grey Delisle, which is a huge plus.
And I think everyone can agree on Sarevok being a great addition to the series once ToB rolls around. Especially for the viewers that will have no idea of what to expect. Quite a nice twist, I'd say... I mean, if I wasn't already acquainted with the material and all..
And I am the first one to agree with you on both aspects(that Viconia is a hottie and that romance shows her deep side). But she is just not to my liking. Not like Jaheira anyway. I guess that depends on an individual. You see her like a motherly character, I see her just as an old friend, who has become more that just that. I kinda see her as a mix between Viconia and Aerie. She has some of Aerie's compasion for fellow man, but she is not whining all the time, and at the same time she has much of Viconia's qualites, like strenght(both phisyical and mental) but isn't so cold as Viconia is.
I can understand you view, I hope you can the same on your side. I think Viconia is a great character(like all of BG characters, maybe even one of the best of them all), but I just prefer Jaheira over her. I just hope someone doesn't think me as racist becuse of that :)
I completely see what you mean about Jaheira being in between Aerie and Viconia. Kind of the neutral ground(funny thing, her being neutrally aligned and all) of the romances. And in my opinion, Jaheira certainly has the most sophisticated of the romances, as far as what must be done to win her heart, despite her trying to resist her own growing feelings for the main character. While many complain that she falls for you too easily so shortly after the death of Khalid, there's only so much a computer RPG could do at that time, and I thought it turned out just fine.
I just have that preference for having "defeated" Viconia and breaking her open to get to her story.
Keldorn- kenneth brannagh
Minsc- John Malkovitch
Saemon- Jake Busey
Anomen-
Jaheira- Helen Hunt
Elhan- Patrick Stewart
Jan- Jim Carrey (perhaps)
Bodhi- Liv Tyler (with serious voice, like out of LotR)
Korgan- Michael Ironside
BAH! I can't think of anymore!
the only way this would make a good movie is if it was a triology sort of like the lord of the rings and had a big movie budget to boot.
shareYeah maybe.
I mean, if people love something like "Lord of the Rings" so much, a Baldurs Gate movie should interest them as well... of course, first thing needed would be a really good script.
---
If you really would be an omnivore, you would consider raw innards a delicacy.
Keira Knightley as Imoen. I think she would be perfect.
Jason Statham as Minsc. He can play crazy (Mean Machine)
Clive Owen as Edwin. I've never had Edwin in my party though..
Halle Berry or Scarlette Johansson as Viconia.
Heath Ledger as Haer Dalis. If HD is who I think he is.
Harvey Keitel as Keldorn. I don't know, he just popped up.
I would like to see Jason Lee somewhere, maybe as Yoshiro but then he wouldn't be Japanese.
This is weird...I've just finished writing a nearly 200 page movie script for the first movie, I was just about to start writing the sequal, but decided against it straight away. (I wanted to breath a little, maybe show the first script to my agent) but the characters in the first game are:
Cubette: He's a in-training priest of Helm, I thought a cleric as the main character would make the most sense, because then he has to struggle between his faith and his heritage, plus, I thought it would be a little obvious to have a big muscle bound paladin or fighter as the main part, and a little to cliche'. The actor I chose for him was Michael Pitt, mainly because he looks timid and weak and probably wouldn't fare well in a fight, so the whole point of him being the spawn of the god of murder would be so much more shocking. Plus having a small guy like Michael Pitt having this immense power, especially in the sequal, would be a good plot point.
Imoen: You basically gotta have her, I'd imagine she would end up being a mage/thief at the end, so I made it that way. Xan shows her a scroll of magic in one scene and it all blossoms from there. She's playful, innocent and naive, well in the first one anyway. I'd imagin someone like Anna Paquin playing her, a different type of rogue, but maybe Alison Hannigan, though having this problem with magic in the second film might be a little too much of a reprise of the dark willow saga in buffy.
Jaheira: I love her character, annoying as it is sometimes. But she is Gorion's friend and he strictly directs the hero to her, so I say she really has to be in it. I imagin her a dressing in green, much like she does, and having a kind of gentle aura about her, it being another surpise that she is kinda tough and unforgiving. I'd imagine Joanna Paqula in her part, she has the accent, she's an excellent actress, with a lot of presssence, plus she looks so much like some sort of elf, and alot like her portrait in BG2.
Khalid: If you have Jaheira, Khalid has to follow. Khalid was my favourite character when I first plyed the game. Though, he is the only one I've had real trouble with casting. For a while I thought David Hyde-Pierce, but then thought, 'Niles? Fighting Gnolls and Goblins' and quickly dismissed the idea.
Xan: Current favourite character. When writing the script I was originally going to have Edwin in the party, but after writing three lines of diologue for Xan, he was in the party for good. He's the comic relief, he's an elf, all kinds of good points for that plus, he's just pretty cool all round. If you read my script, you would feel the same way. Casting, favourite charcter, favourite actor, so Gary Oldman for Xan. We all know Mr. Oldman likes to ham things up plenty, and he'd have a field day doing Xan, plus near the end, he gets a cool, one on one mage battle with Semaj.
Kivan: My Aragorn replacement, while writing the scene where they travel to the bandit camp, I thought...how do they know they're way around?...and I thought of a cool woodsman with a good back story, hmmm? I automatically thought of Kivan, he's looking for Tazok anyway to get some vengeance, so he saves Cubette from a bear by charming it, and asks what they're doing in the wood, they say they're looking for the bandit camp, he says he is also, it basically wrote itself. For casting, I went with Josh Holloway for a while, I heard he was looking for a non southern raskel to play, and I thought he might like to do it, make a good career move and change his acting type. Plus...I made Kivan die at the end, fighting Tazok.
Sarevok: Vin Diesel, hands down. He's big, he's dark and he used to play dungeons and dragons. He's basically perfect for the part, he's also got the deep menacing voice.
Well, there are my ideas, and while reading this board I decided on the party for the sequal.
Cubette, Jaheira, Minsc, Yoshimo, Xan, Jansen and later Imoen, replacing Yoshimo, for reasons known. Seeing as how Minsc doesn't feature in my first script at all, he becomes a new character, with the back story of dynerheir. In my first script, the party was orginally going to be, the same, but replacing Kivan and Xan for Dynaheir and Minsc, but changed my mind. Although I thought Halle Berry would be a very good Dynaheir. Plus, Will Smith? Yoshimo? Don't wanna be a stick in the mud here, but Yoshimo is Asian...and Will Smith is not.
After reading such a detailed design, it really appeals to me that it is indeed a very, very, very bad idea to ever make a BG movie.
Because NOBODY will ever be happy about it. Main character a WHAT ? CLERIC ??? Nobody has ever played this game as a cleric ! (Ok a small minority has - but really, clerics are VERY unpopular).
Its much better to make an independent story that nobody can compare to his game experience.
Anna Paquin as Imoen is a nice choice, anyway. Duh. Anna Paquin would be a nice choice for almost anyone. Great actress, that.
---
If you really would be an omnivore, you would consider raw innards a delicacy.
Thats kinda the point...it's one of the last classes anyone would suspect. A fighter, range or paladin is far too obvious, a thief would be the crappy D&D film all over again, a bard...well you just can't have a bard as the main character, sorry, but it would be stupid, mages won't correspond to well when facing the second film, barbarians and monks, frankly, suck. Druids...well I think we can rule out druids.
Clerics do suck...this is true, I hated playing the first game as a cleric, but in terms of a movie, struggeling with his faith would be a great plot point, there's also the sins he has committed, murder and all. I just think it's the best choice.
I have changed clerics a wee bit, Cubette actually uses a dagger for a good part of the script, I always thought it was a stupid rule for all clerics of all faiths not being able to use bladed weapons, I am sure a flail would draw just as much blood...if not more, than a sword or a spear.
Thanks about Anna Paquin though, I did really think she was the best choice, plus I know a guy who knows Miss Paquin, he worked on X2 with her.
While I would change most of your casting choices, personally, at least someone is attempting someone. ANd I have to disagree about all the classes that people claim suck. But I digress.
I do like your character choices, and I do like replacing Minsc and Dynaheir with Kivan and Xan. That's not to say I don't like them, but that was one of the things I didn't like about the 2nd game is that it was assumed that Imoen, Jaheira, Khaldi, Minsc, and Dynaheir were all there at the final battle. Besides, I always envision having Tiax at the final battle. Hahaha.
Anyways, my only other disagreement is the name. Doesn't sound very... errr... I guess medeival is the phrase I'm looking for. But whatever, it's not my script. Though I would like to read it.
But 200 pages? That's roughly a 3 hour movie, assuming each page makes about a minute a page.
Yeah, You are right about the classes...I didn't mean they sucked so much as in terms of a movie, the main character being a kung-fu monk a half-orc barbarian really wouldn't work the same as a bard or a druid...in fact my favourite class in indeed a bard and my best game I've played as one, but there's just certain things you can't put into a movie seriously.
Also, I do plan on cutting some of it out...there's quite a drawn out and unesceraray scene in beregost with the whole Silke - Garrick shinanigens, that could go, as well as the Nashkel carnival scene, which by the way included a certain famous exploding ogre.
First off, making a movie/series/trilogy out of Baldur's Gate is a really really bad idea. The story is too complex and long for a movie/trilogy and the game has a too fast pace for a series. To squeeze in as many npcs and pcs into a movie/trilogy is just stupid, but could work in the series.
Pineconepenguin making the main character, a man/woman who's a child of a god that strikes fear to the people of Faerun, should not be handed to Michael Pitt. If you are trying to copy a Frodo like figure to be the hero, you are heading the wrong path here. IF (that's a big "if" and not very likely) they make a movie/series or whatever of BG it would be a really bad idea to fit in classes and such into the already complex story. The hero should be someone that the audience can relate to, he/she can still have issues and struggles between his/her morals or giving in to the devine. Drop the script and write book instead if you have to make this your project.
Question: Do you want Baldur's Gate the movie to be a crappy fan-made piece of crap or a million dollar ala LOTR project? Bringing classes into it will confuse people who never heard of D&D and upset fans.
Making movies out of games isn't nessecary a bad idea but there are exceptions: RPGs, FPSs and puzzles. Let the games stay the way they are, it's enough there are crappy books.
That is weird...I was just discussing with my brother how I should eliminate the characters classes. Make him a normal person that learns abilities along the way, that way no one can complain about the character not being right...and it's much less confusing.
shareKate Beckinsale as Imoen. Perfect match. If you don't believe me, check out imoen.org
FREE DOG NOW!!!
I do agree a movie would be REALLY bad. A series is much more interesting. I mean, if they did XENA the warrior princess (LOL), why couldnt they do a Baldur´s Gate one? As long as it doesnt turn out like Xena...
In fact, you can do series with a strong and continuous plot. Look at Babylon 5. There was a lot of cheesy stuff in there, but it was amazing, and did work out. And the plot, even being sci-fi, is as crazy as any fantasy setting out there.
Anyway, about the characters. Considering Minsc is one of the most famous and liked NPC´s of the entire series, you must put him in the series. He IS the comedy relief character. You dont need Xan, Tiax or anyone else, except ocasionaly as secondary characters. I dont have a clue about who could act as Minsc.
Imoen has to be in it too, but I dont see her as Kate Beckinsale. I mean, Kate is a bit older than Imoen is suposed to be, and looks much more like a woman, if you know what I mean. I always imagine Imoen as that petite cute girl that you find beautifull, yet not exactly "hot", if you know what I mean. Someone like Anna Paquin is perfect. She is petite, brunette, cute, has that girlish look to her (Kate is a woman, not a tomboy) and would be perfect for the character.
On the other hand, Kate Beckinsale would be perfect for Jaheira. She is somewhat blond/brown hair, she is a bit older (and would be older than the main character, yet not that older), and she is and acts like a woman. She has the confidence, the skills and the looks that Jaheeira would have. About Khalid, well, I never liked him, and in BG1 I always made sure he got killed right outside that tavern where you get him. So, in the series he should be around for a while, and die quite quickly, unless you changed his personality for something better and more interesting.
Sean Conerry would be perfect as Keldorn. Yet, I dont think he should be a main character in the series, even he being one of my favorite characters.
Vin Diesel would be perfect as Sarevok. Of that, I have no doubt. Yet, I wonder how Diesel would look with hair Lol.
Too long and complex ???
BG1: You are hunted by various assassins, examine a mine, a bandit camp, and a second mine to find out who wants to dead, then you find out a plot for a war and do a final battle against the evil guy.
BG2: You flee a prison, free Imoen from a second prison, hunt the evildoer through the underdark, kill the sister of the evildoer, kill the evildoer.
And about LOTR, I dont see any problem with that movie. It was the DnD movie that was utter crap. LOTR instead is praised by most people.

If you really would be an omnivore, you would consider raw innards a delicacy.
One thing people might not be too pleased with is the anhilalation of all romance in the second one...first of all because it just takes focus away from the plot, and secondly because all romances would just not work in film...Jaheira I always thought as more of a mothering figure...plus! Her husband JUST died! Aerie, you can't include the circus quest, it's stupid and pointless in terms of a movie and viconia...my personal favourite...I just don't think she could be involved in the film at all.
I like the romances in the game, they add another dimensions to the characters and the game, but in terms of a movie it would just disuade from the main point...methinks, anyway, there may be some way to include it...tastefully.
Yes, too long and complex and you forgot BG2: ToB. I guess you are the expert in summoning down games but I believe you let some things out. The extra quests aside, the whole BG series is not linear enough. That's why the books are so different from the games, the movie (or whatever) would also fail to live up to the game. It wouldn't be profitable to make movies with characters, heroes, villains and such from the games. LOTR worked because it was the same goal and enemy in all the three movies. Several BG movies would be too confusing because they run together but there are different stories in each one. Now try and sum it down.
And why did you compare the LOTR trilogy to the D&D movie? We all know the LOTR movies are loved around the world and the D&D was crap. Who are you arguing with here?

Please, PLEASE change the name of the main character.
shareI think as a trilogy it could be great. That said, I'd want it done right, there are too many *beep* fantasy movies (newest is eragon) done. I think PJ could do it but I doubt he would, he'd probably consider it a backwards career move and I know all the critics would jump on him from moving from literature to video games.
shareIt's been a while now since I looked at the script, I read it and thought...'Cubette???' I have no idea what I was thinking. I am gonna chnage the name, but for now, he shall be refferred to as BLANK. The classes are gone, as are the annoying subquests that I insisted be in there. I have changed the script radically and cut it down to 140 pages long.
I have started writing the second one, and have changed my mind about the romance, because, thinking about it, not much actually happens in way of plot, especially if you take out the sub quests. So, I personnally think it should be the Viconia romance, others may think different.
Also, in the first one, I had made it so the six companions travel everywhere together just like in the games...it's not realistic...why would they all go back to candlekeep?
and Xan, I insist he is in it, he turns up in Suldanessalar, and some of the dead companions even come back to help fight Irenicus at the end
Next time....Its' TOB
Did somebody say Antonio Banderas as Minsc??? Minsc is a big, bald, retarded russian. Minsc has the best personality of the game and I don't think there is an actor alive with the looks AND the voice to pull it off...
shareThis movie would probably be better if there were unknowns in the roles, with maybe celebrity cameos for smaller roles. First off, for the amount of cast members, everyone would love to see their favorite actor as Imoen of Khalid or etc. But the problem with using big names is paying them big money.
And I would prefer if they could find people that resemble their BG counterparts, and could do decent similar voicing, though that wouldn't be totally necessary.
The difficulty in turning a game like this into a one off movie is that there are so many characters and side quests in the game that people will want to see. No matter what you do you'll leave a large portion of the audience disappointed.
A series would be a better option. For main characters you'd need to have the starting group, Jaheira, Minsc and Yoshimo/Imoen. Then you'd need to pick up Aerie, and then you'll have all the games most popular/memorable characters, apart from Viconia. But I feel she should be a recurring character, not actually in the party but may show up to help occasionally before disappearing again. In the main party we should add one of the other male NPC's so there's a bit more balance. Other NPC's will join for their particular quests, but there's always the possibility of some of them returning later.
If you're going to kill off anyone the obvious choice is Cernd, or Nalia/Mazzy if you want to kill a female. I'm afraid none of them have the fanbase of any of the other NPC's.
I would love to turn it into a movie myself when I get a major production up, but the thing is, I want appearances from all the characters. Honestly, the last time I had Krogan in my party, I was... 10. I've never even had Jan in my party. I wouldn't mind doing it at all -- but I would never want to *beep* it up as badly as the D&D movies.
In all opinion, I would only make a movie as a dedicated gamer.
The PC would have be carefully selected and created.
And unless we got permission from mod makers and bioware, we couldn't have any mods in the game (IE. Kelsey, Tsujatha, Fade, Nathaniel, etc.)
And I agree on the kill offs. I do like Mazzy, but there's barely anyone who picks up those three. And Anomen and Nalia get made fun of endlessly.
I love Mazzy and Nalia, though I will admit, they could use more character development. Any good writer can make any character more likable or better.
I would like to see a movie, but there would have to be major changes to the story just to fit it all in. You can't show the audience everything in a film, but more in an HBO series or something like that.
And still, I think a number of characters should be killed off, not just the ones with a popular fanbase. Some of my favorite characters in the series, like Xzar, Montaron, Haer'Dalis, and Tiax, among a lot of others, should all get killed. Not because I hate them, quite the opposite is true, but they also seem like characters that should get killed off.
And as for story related characters, occasionally, one should get killed off. It heightens the drama if someone the audience cares about were to be killed in battle.
Xzar, Montaron and Tiax get killed off in Shadows of Amn, anyway.
shareThe movie wouldn't be that great imho ... or it'll have to have like 6hours to trully enjoy it ... that's why serie would be better ... it would still be difficult, as everyone has other opinion on the game, and would like to see someone else there, someone else romancing etc ... so romance could be skipped entirely not to upset the fans ...i have no idea about the casting ... except for jaheira as ellie chidzey (chick from DnD 2), she totally reminds me of jaheira ...
But as someone mentioned here before me, best solution imho would be anime for it... as u can have all people voicing in game to voice in animation, and it would be serie, so u'll have tons of adventures ...
But still i don't think we'll live to see BG movie/serie :/
I used to be a schizoprenic. But now, we're fine ... :)
