I've just finished bg2 with monk ... i've found him strongest class (i don't consider dual/multi now) as his damage was greatest of all classes with huge THAC0 and with whirlwind(i spent all points in it) he could take down 2enemies in 1 round which rly rocks ... and i got magic ressistance 100+ so he could kill all the mages in game without mage even taking 1hp of him ... so high lvl mages/liches were no enemies to me ... his AC at the end was -14 which is foking lot -11 to misile ...
anyone else played monk? i didn't think he would be so powerful at the end of game when i picked him up...
I used to be a schizoprenic. But now, we're fine ... :)
Give Kensai the right equipment he is by far the strongest class in the game...unbalanced even...dragons and stuff falling before mages barely can cast any spells.
hmmm never though of changing to mind flayer and draining intelligence/ or level draining ... that could be his defeat, u're right ... but i don't think kensai himself is that imba ... although he is powerfull, but i don't think he'll kill mages and dragons that easily ...

You have no idea what a high level sorcerer can do.. In ToB, my character could peacefully solo through the game. Project Image -> Time Stop -> Improved Alacrity -> Summon Planetar -> Summon Planetar -> Summon Planetar -> Summon Planetar
I had seven level 7 spells. So I could cast Project image 7 times and each time summon planetars to do the dirty work while I sat back and gave them enough support. It doesn't take too long to tear anyone to shreds.
My sorc realiably killed the hardest dragons in about 2-3 rounds, thanks to Improved Alacity and items that reduce spellcasting time. Yeah I know Monks have a chance to kill dragons that fast too, but not reliably.
The monk is conceptionally a magekiller, i.e. it is not even supposed to be the best class in respect to damage output.
Monks do not manage the damage output of other fighter classes, simply because they cant use that Hammer that set strength to 25.
That hammer, dualweapon style and improved haste has pretty much the same effect as Whirlwind, for much less cost.
The Monks MR and saving throws are great, which is conceptional - they are supposed to be one of the "mage killer" classes. Still, defending upon a Monk in BG2 is easy - just cast Protection against magical weapons and you have 4 rounds for casting stuff like Imprisonment.
Thats why Inquisitor are IMHO the superior magekillers. In original D&D they get "Dispel Evil" which allows no saving throw. In BG2, they get an strengthened version of Dispel Magic, which is also impossible to resist.
All in all yeah Monk is an easy to play and quite powerful class, but the best ? Nope.
Inquisitors are nice early and mid-game, but once my Cavalier got the Carsomyr, there were zero reasons to ever use an Inquisitor again. You can tank like a beast, plus you get full Paladin spellcasting abilities (DUHM is nice once you lose your Bhaalspawn abilities). Lay on Hands is nice in a pinch, plus all those Protection from Evils whenever demons appeared (and they did in bunches in places like Watcher's Keep). The THACO and Damage bonuses against demons and dragons were far more useful than I thought they might be.
obviously someone, who has not fully explored the game engine and the followers provided, namely Aerie and Viconia and Sarevok could wipe the floor with a level 40 monk. Can you say no save/SR spells to a monks face with improved alacrity/time stop/robe of vecna or grand master two-handed sword wielding tank Sarevok with a potential armor class of -18 or -19, and 25% chance to decapitate enemies with no save...
or a custom blade/skald AC build with well under -21 ac, or a dwarven defender build regenerating more damage than a monk can dish out in one round, or taking no damage at all with sewer cloak/defender flail
