Please explain it to me

Some of the threads for this movie have been full of insults, lack of tolerance and elitism.

I bought the movie after seeing it twice before.

I think all of the actresses are beautiful despite the fact that they are of different ages.

The scenery is wonderfully shot.

I understood some of the stories regarding the two older sisters. I don't think the middle sister's husband cheated on her. I think he walked out.

I'm not quite clear about the youngest sister, her brother, the man she was/is/is not involved with.

Does she love her brother in an incestuous manner? I don't think he does.
Why was she stood up at the tea house?
Did she have an actual lover that she thought got her pregnant?
What was going on with the guy she met outside towards the end?

Had the older sister ever consumated a sexual relationship with the man she was seeing? Or was it only kissing?

I'm asking these questions in a straightforward manner to understand the story better. So, I would appreciate sincere answers from those who have a clearer, more intellectual grasp than I do.

On the other hand, if anyone is going to ridicule or insult me, don't bother replying.
It doesn't take any courage to crack wise when the other party is not there to slap you in the mouth.

I would appreciate any constructive insight that anyone out there could share about this haunting story.

Please send me your reply in public or make it a private message.
Thank you for your help.

In response to one of your questions, in Asian cultures big brothers and little sisters are a lot closer than in the West (where they can barely stand each other) and it's quite common for a young girl to idealize and develop an infatuation for her big brother (who, in many ways takes care of her and protects her more than any other man ever will).

However, those feelings are usually just a phase that young girls go through and they very rarely develop into anything incestuous. Lien in the movie doesn't seem to have even understood exactly what sex was, but she definitely seemed to desire a level of physical intimacy with her brother which, even for Asian cultures, was a bit too much. Fortunately, Hai was obviously not interested (though he didn't do much to properly set boundaries).

Thank you. I think I understand a little better. I'll just keep watching the movie until I do. Much appreciated.
