Anyone else like this movie?

When I first heard about this movie on the Scifi channel, I had negative thoughts. This was due to the fact that Scifi has a habit of advertizing their good movies to look like crap and their bad movies to look good. When I watched Faust, I was impressed. It had good amounts of gore and an oddly amusing storyline. Months later, I bought the movie and watch it every so often.I showed this movie to all my friends and their reactions to the film were different than I would have thought.
They reffered to the movie as "a piece of crap" or said "Where the hell do you find these terrible movies?"
Aside from the rushed story line and they lack of comparison to the comic books (i never read them anyways), the movie really delivered a punch. It had action, gore, cheesey gore and sex. Also there was the fact that Brian Yuzna directed (i happen to like his work) and the fact that Jeffrey Combs was in the movie (he's one of my all time favorite actors)
I read as many of the reviews for the movie as i could and found that practicly everyone hates the movie. Did anyone else happen to find the movie slightly good enough to watch again or do i just have bad tastes?

Just got the film on DVD actually, indeed it can be quite tastelessv at times. The special effects were excellent though, my favorite being the giant Homunculus creature (Beautifully designed and executed by Screaming Mad George) and the stomach demon, which was also excellent. Nice gore too.

I enjoyed the picture alot! Divoff, Frost and Combs all brought their A games. The effects were good, directing was solid. Brian Yuzna really went all out in the style area. The DVD is nice two, both commentary tracks rock. Just make sure you get the Unrated version. The R-rated version has part of the hot shower sex scene cut out and I'm sure there is some gore cut too.

Can't say I loved the movie, but I certainly liked it, and wouldn't mind watching it a few more times. It'd be nice to watch it on DVD, considering SciFi always cuts a lot of the good gore....
Besides, Jeffrey Combs. Need I say more?

You know, I think I'm going to like being a Jedi.

I haven't seen this film. I just wanted to comment on rockavie's post. Alright, it's pretty damn obvious to anyone who has at least the smallest knowledge of horror, that if you don't like gore, then do not see a film with effects by Screaming Mad George.

As far as the pu$$y juice scene. Have you seen Vistor Q. That involves alot more uh, bodily fluids, and also looks more realistic. So frankly compared to that, everything else isn't as disturbing. I mean, Vistor Q is really appauling, yet at the same time you can't take your eyes off of it. It's like memerizingly appauling. I think Screaming Mad George's concept of gore is like that, it's fascinating yet at the same time like "WTF?!"

It's a great great fu ckin' horror flick and I just can't uderstand why it has so many negative reviews. It has everything a good horror movie must have: interesting plot, goog fx, generous portion of gore and so on.

I really like this movie. I watch it often and the soundtrack is awesome.

reply

I haven't seen the movie yet... but the soundtrack is, indeed, awesome!

as a fan of the comic i must say they did a better job than i ever expected but i still wish that it had been even closer to the source material. the movie should have been done more similar to the way that caligula was with graphic uncut sex scenes and much higher budget for special effects. as well as a few casting changes divoff was the worst casting for M. the actress playing claire was dead on though. and frost did pull off a good jaspers at times. but the b movie budget and changes to tone down the graphic nature of the story serve to undermine what could have been a great adaptation of the most groundbraking and origional comic i have ever read

I discovered this movie quite by accident
I work at an ebay consignment store. Someone brought in a bunch of comics and 3 Faust were in them. I had some free time so I sat back and read one. It was #3 of the series, so I came into the middle, had no clue what was going on. Just saw a lot of violence, blood, and sex. Amusing to say the least. The same night, I rented a b-horror called Rottweiler (Terminator as a dog), it has a preview of low and behold, Faust. So I rented it the next night. Just finished watching it. From the little I read of the comics, I could see the plot got chopped up. Budget wise, it wasn't too bad. I like comic book movies and cheesy horror movies. On a scale of 1-10, I give Faust a 6 1/2. It had it's moments. You could see where they took inspiration from X-Men, Spawn, and Batman, but it didn't feel like a total rip-off to me. The feet on Faust were horrible. Looked like latex rubber over boots. And his horns bounced sometimes.

Yeah, Faust's costume was ridiculous. They tried to give him a cool cape like Spawn but it didn't work. His claws were a less-intimidating version of Wolverine's and he looked like he was just wearing a rubber hat instead of having bony horns. Overall, I thought the movie was really bad. The only thing that saved it for me was the lack of CGI (which is refreshing) and the soundtrack, but even that disappointed me. They just had to use the one Soulfly song with that whiny gay-ass Fred Durst in it.
And what is this crap about the devil? Is he supposed to be married or something? If he is, this movie is crap because marriage is an arrangement designed by god and Satan would never model anything he does after anything god made. If he's not, this means that Satan is a big dripping vagina who can only get one concubine. Yeah right. 4/10

I like this movie----I think it have somo things of the great Toxic Avenger and its a cool movie.

I have seen few things worse than this movie... and I used to work at a snuff film screening company.

I think this movie is outstanding. This is like math, you know? When you multiply 2 negative numbers, you get a positive one. In movies I think it's the same, if you have a movie with lousy Fx, senseless gore, horrible actors, cheesy script, and an overall rating soooooooo bad, automatically becames an excellent movie...

There is a lot of good movies that nobody likes.
My favorites are:
Spawn
Bless the child
The eighteenth angel
Faust:love of the damned
Exorcist:the beginning
Revelation
Seems like most of people dislike movies about the devil.
