I saw a cut-to-the-max version and need help!

Hi! I did rent "Brother" and it was a *beep*-ty 90-Minute-Version (German one). They let out EVERY gunfight, except the scene when Denny hits/saves Kitano, and the first shot when these latino guys capture Kitano in his car in the beginning.

So I have some questions, perhaps anyone can help:

1. Is there any fight in the flashback scene in the beginning? There is some police later entering the hotel where the yakuza are gathering.

2. Who was guy who tried to kill Takeshi Kitano and holds a gun at his head?

3. What happens to Kato? The last scene hes seen he offers his life to Sitsake (?) and mysteriously disappears from the cutted version?

4. There seems to be some trouble when Sitsakes men join Kitanos gang. One of the black pointed his gun at Sitsake, who says he is in dept. What was that?

And the end was totally confusing in that version:

5. There is a call by the mafia. They say they captured Kitanos girlfriend and he shall come alone. In the cutted version, this sub-plot also disappears mysteriously. What happened?

6. Theres a short scene where Kitano reads a letter to Kato and then his former pardner in Japan is scene, in an traditional

7. Kitanos men take on the mafia in a villa and lose. After that, you see several dead people lying on the basketball floor, with Kitanos brother sneaking in and opening the tresor. Was there an revenge attack of the mafia or what?

8. In the end, there is one single shot with Kitanos brother laying dead in the desert. I have no explanation.

Final question:

Who the hell is responsible for that max-cutted version, that no one is able to understand? It was an 16 age +, but even in TV you can see more in movies of that age - it was like you cut all a bit creepy scenes out of "Poltergeist".

some answers(but its been awhile and i only seen it once):
1. in the fflashback at the beginning , there was a fight, the boss got assassinated, then the cops convinced kitanos gang to merge with their rival, but i guess they didnt want him(they wanted him dead as a matter of fact)
2. i think he was a member of the mexican gang wanting revenge
3. kato shoots himself in the head in order to convince shirase to join kitano
4. i guess that black guy was good friends with kato, like the same way denny and kitano are, and he probly thought shirase killed him.
7. the dead people on the floor was the accountant for kitanos gang and some other low ranking members i presume, the mafia killed them(since they were going after the whole gang)
8. kitanos brother got killed by the mafia as well, they just didnt show it.

hope that was some help

yeah, they never show Ken being killed. The last we see of him is when he splits town, then when Anaki tries to contact him he's just a corpse in a ditch with a ringing phone. It's clear the Mafia got him, but they never show it.

As for all the cuts... WTF?! I can't believe it was so shredded. I recommend we load up and go down there and massacre their asses.

Yes, let's do that. Yeah.

I guess that's what they think we'd do if wee see the un-cut version of the film.
I'm german myself, but thankfully I were lucky and watched it in the cinema while ago. You might want to check for the DVD at your local dvd shop as it is for sale for around 10€. (got one myself)

The R2 DVD in the UK is uncut FYI.

man you missed the movie. get your hands on uncut version for me please.

It's available on R2 from www.play247.com in PAL format only. There is either an R3 version or R0 version from Hong Kong/Korea at HKFlix.com, but I'm not sure about the specs. If you haven't any luck there, try www.charmes.de

I'm wondering why Kitano's 'Hana-Bi' was rated 16 by German censors and why his other gangster films 'Violent Cop', 'Sonatine' and 'Brother' all got an 18 rating... All those films have pretty much the same amount of violence, so why did 'Hana-Bi' get a lower rating?

I live in Germany and I had to get my copy from e-bay - the UK dvd. Uncut and widescreen.

On a side note the germans are completely crazy - the uncut Scarface for example is imported form Switzerland ROFL, they sell some 16+ version at the malls...
