HI there are some things in the movie i dont understand could you please help me with that
1 Why doesnt aniki kill off the maffia boss.I mean what would you do when you caught the guy thats responsible for the death of all your crewmembers. I would certainly avenge the death of my brothers.
2 whats the meaning of aniki and his girl.Who is she and where does he know her from.
3 aniki lets his own brother flee, would a yakuza let a coward just run away and not take his responsibility.
1 - Aniki wanted to save Denny. If he killed the mafia boss, then the mafia will hunt the two of them down and kill them. Also, Aniki probably wanted to end his life. So by letting the mafia boss "see" him kill Denny, the mafia boss would think Denny's dead and after they kill Aniki, the war ends.
2 - There's no real meaning behind it. She was probably just a call girl who became his woman. Yamamoto was probably trying to mimic his Big boss and have a woman, because he never had a woman in Japan (we assume this because he did not have a girl serve him at the bar in Japan). We assume he was focused on protecting his Aniki in the past.
3 - He knew they were all going to die. Also Aniki lost his yakuza fighting spirit when Kato died. Actually, ever since his little family got big, he never paid any attention to the business. Another reason could be, since the family went from say hundreds to 5 again...he sort of didn't have any real reason to hold him back.

shareYeah this was the reason I liked the ending so much. I understood more fully what he was trying to do after the movie ended. Like, having the other car available for Denny to drive off and having the note in the bag written before hand... it had been all pre-planned before things got worse at Denny's mother's house.

I read it as that the aniki actually wanted to wipe his own gang against the italians to stop the thirst for wars.
