'He's not gay, he's married.'

I just watched this movie and am afraid to admit that I still don't quite understand why Dean Cain's character says this line at the end of the movie.

I get that the guy he's referring to is obviously gay and closeted, but why does he go out of his way to keep the guy's secret after he finds out the truth?

My first thought was that it shows Cole's character growth at the end of the movie, (he knows now what it's like to be dumped) but now that I think about it, that doesn't quite fit in to that theory now....!

Can anyone help me figure this out?

Isn't it kinda like unofficial gay code that you're not supposed to out someone?? It's their decision to tell the world if they want to.

Plus, I do agree that he matured a lot and learned a lesson about himself from his experiences with Kip Rogers. It would have made him seem bitter and mean to have had him admit that he had a sexual relationship with Kip.

yeah i think it was just his way of hiding what happened in an ironic way

He says that line, referencing something that was said at the very beginning of the movie, referring to the actor he was sleeping with on set. Re-watch it and look for it. The comment was made to be funny and ironic. I'd go find the exact spot, but my only copy is VHS and my VCR rolled over dead.

I always thought it had more to do the fact that he was dumped by the closeted actor... and was embarassed by the situation. He probably figured it's easier to "fib" than to explain the real reason of how he personally knows the actor is gay.
More about his pride... experiencing the other side of being played and dumped. Just a thought.

^ I agree. If i remember correctly his friends didnt even know about the Kip Rogers affair at all. He even hid it from them so my guess was he was too embarrassed. I doubt he would let anyone ever know it ever happened.

The whole "Kip Rogers" thing is a veiled reference to Tom Cruise.

Tom is GAY.

Hollywood "insiders" have told me. Greg Berlanti, of course, the writer/director of this film, is also on "the inside" of Hollywood because of his talent and accomplishments. So - Greg "knows" too!

Now - why would a hot gay guy uphold that facade? Why lie about Tom even if you have been to bed with him? Why would a gay guy keep quiet about what would be one of the biggest "coming out" stories to hit the headlines in ages???

Easy - MISS CRUISE only goes to bed with Star-wannabees. They have to keep their mouths SHUT - otherwise, they will "never work in this town again."

But no mistakes about it - Tommy C likes C0CK!

"Don't call me 'mac'... HONEY!"

I've heard that rumor about Tom Cruise for a long time. However, when I think about it, it doesn't affect my life in any way at all if Tom Cruise is or is not gay. Nor would it improve my life in any way were Tom Cruise to be outed.

That said, where there is so much smoke there is probably some fire. Some friends in the Heartland told me way back in '64 that Rock Hudson, Jim Nabors and Liberace were gay. They scored 100% on the gossip scale.

P.S. So what happens when one of those "Star-wannabees" also makes it big and would work in that town regardless of what Tom Cruise says or does. For example, Brad Pitt. Wait, they could not out Tom without outing themselves. So there goes that idea.
