Question.

Watching the movie, I was confused when Mrs. Leeford died. Did she kill herself, or did Monks kill her?

reply

I was confused by that too. I think she naturally died because there was a previous scene where she was going on how old she was but she had something to live for- "revenge". But when they realized that Oliver was saved she had lost that something to live for. I don't think he'd poison her because Monks claimed he couldn't kill another human being. Just like he failed to kill Oliver's mom. But then again she was drinking wine when she died...

Yes, I think it was a combination of arthritis brought on by age and her years of hard drinking that helped to bring about her demise, but I think it was ultimately the realization that the family fortune was out of her reach forever that killed whatever will to live that was keeping her going...

Monks did in fact kill her, I know this because we were watching it in school, and my English teacher kept going on about stuff that was happening. If you remember Monks put something in Leeford's drink before she drank it, so really, he simply poisoned her. :)

reply

He poisoned her the same way she had poisoned his father....in the wine.
