Which Film Version of Oliver Twist is closest to the book?

Does anyone know?

I'm not sure, maybe the 1985 version?

Mr. Alan, there was no reason for you to post this same thread in multiple places. That's a form of trolling, I believe. That said, I posted to the one you placed in the "Oliver!" (1968) board with my opinions.

i've never seen a truly accurate version(it would take too long to film, and too many characters). my personal favourite is the david lean movie and most versions follow this. he cut out the 'rose' section which was the boring part of the magnificent novel but sadly also left out noah claypole's 'criminal career' in london. if you want to laugh out loud watch the 1928 version with a 6', 30 year old dodger.

I have always felt that one of the best and truest adaptations of "Oliver Twist" is "Oliver!" (1968).

As far as I can see this version easily reveals more from the book than any film I have seen - at over 6 hours long it must be a contender,
