About Quiroga SPOILER ALERT

There are a few things I liked about this film. There are many more I did not like. However, there is one point that really bothers me to no end. Perhaps I missed something. PLEASE let me know if I did! Quiroga, the reporter, begins researching the Nameless. He finds out that it is an extremely dangerous cult that has no qualms torturing and murdering anybody, even young children. In fact, torture and murder are major parts of this group's ideology. Quiroga even meets a man who won't leave his apartment for fear of being found by the Nameless. Eventually, Quiroga finds out that the Nameless are hiding in an abandoned hotel. This hotel is in a remote location, one where the cult would be unlikely to attract attention.
Ok.
Imagine you are Quiroga. You've learned about a cult that loves to brutally kill people. You know where they are. You know they have decided to be in that place because it is isolated, free from witnesses to their evil deeds. Naturally, you would enter that place, without a weapon or even anyone accompanying you. Oh wait. That's something that would only happen in a contrived piece of fiction to provide a scary and gruesome death scene. No real person would ever do such a thing!
Look, I usually don't get upset about these things. Even the greatest fictional plots are often unrealistic. I am totally willing to suspend disbelief. However, to paraphrase Annie Wilkes from "Misery" if something isn't realistic, it should at least be fair. For crying out loud, the Nameless could have grabbed him while he was on the phone! A stray line could have established Quiroga as suicidal. He could have been portrayed as a tough reporter who always goes places heavily armed. Quiroga could have discovered less and be shown as nearly certain that the Nameless do not exist. Someone could have tricked him. Anything! So, I'm not even good at that and I think any of those ideas would have worked better. Tell me if I'm wrong, please. Tell me if I missed something. It is a tad depressing thinking of how much money people make doing this kind of thing. Thanks for listening to a truly irrelevant rant! ( :

well, that was only one of the things that were wrong with this movie. why was he so interessed in finding the nameless? was because of the girl? he probably didnt know about the girl... he even lost his job for it...
although the atmosfere at times was creepy and the movie was promising, it faild to deliver a real concise story, it starts well, but falls apart and the end its not very well done.
i understand what you´re saying but it happens so many times is movies that its almost vulgar.

The characters really made some questionable choices that were hard to understand but I think Quiroga being so interested in the case wasn't one of them.
He seemed to me like someone who wanted to do actual journalist work but was stuck writing about obvious hoax stories for some lame magazine. When a real interesting story appeared he just really wanted to investigate it and probably thought *beep* it, I'm gonna go through with this because I wanted to be a real journalist'.

At least that's how it came across to me.

what doesn't make sense is that you would be smart enough to write "SPOILER ALERT" in the subject line of your post, and then be so STUPID as to mention a character's death in that same line.

reply

Very good point, my friend. I do apologize quite sincerely. In my defense, I have rarely seen anything less surprising. However, that is no excuse for my mistake. Once again, I am sorry.

reply

your politeness has shamed me. please accept my apology.

regarding the post, well, you can fix your mistake, perhaps? if you can't edit your post, delete it and rewrite it if necessary. just a suggestion.

No apology needed. Thanks for the advice on fixing the post. I thought of it not too long after I read your reply and it seems to have worked. I will try hard not to blow movie plots in the future. To think, I always hated people like that, haha! Well, live and learn. Thanks again! ( :

your points are solid.

overall it is a good thriller. but it suffers from better writing.

i can understand the mother going there without any security, she had just heard from her daughter, but the policeman and the reporter were just bad writing.
