Question about the son?

Okay, so the dad has the knife out to perform a trach (hello? Heimlich manuever anyone?) and I see him sweep the things off the table to perform surgery. My dogs chose that minute to go nuts at someone outside. *sigh* What happened between that moment and the parents moving into the haunted house?

The son died

Well, I kind of figured out that he died. I was really wondering if he died because of something the father DID, such as making a mistake cutting, or something that he FAILED to do, such as not being quick enough to make the incision or whatever. It doesn't make that much difference, but I was curious.

reply

If I remember rightly the dad fails to succeed in doing the incision.

The boy ate a bee which stung his mouth or throat, causing it to swell shut. The Heimlich maneuver, I'm afraid, wouldn't have done anything. It's not what the father did do, but didn't. He couldn't bring himself to cut his son.

vwlssknght is 100% correct. There was a yellow jacket or bee on his cereal. It stung his mouth. For those who are allergic the throat swells shut. There are only two ways to remedy this.

1) An EpiPenĀ® (or in his case a EpiPenĀ® Jr.)
2) A tracheotomy. This is very difficult to perform without surgical tools. It can be done by puncturing the neck/trachea and putting a hollowed out pen in it but that is very difficult and often unsuccessful. Many times just scares and kills the victim.

There was a little league game by my house growing up and a guy in the stands took a sip of his beer and there was a bee in it that stung his mouth. He was allergic. Within one minute his throat was closed. In less than two minutes he was dead.
