All been seen before

I seldom noticed that as much as when I saw this movie. For me it worked like a mix of many other movies. With nearly every scene I thought: Ah this I know from that movie, and that I know from another movie ... There are a lot similarities to: Shining, Ghostship, Full Circle, The Ring, Haunted Hill and many others I can't remember right now. It's not sooo bad, but I wouldn't give it more than 5-6 points, cause the originality is missing in my opinion.

Yeah Mischimaus
Too bad that when this came out, Ghost Ship hadn't even been made yet and The Ring was still floating around in Japan somewhere...

Ghost Ship and The Ring aside, this is VERY reminiscent of The Shining, which, I'm sure, has been said many times before. I'm also reminded of Poltergeist and The Amityville Horror, as well as a slew of other films made well before this one.

It's not a bad film, this, however, it all seems so tired and rehashed.

1) A couple loses a child in a freak accident.
2) The couple then tries to "get away from it all" by buying a house in the countryside.
3) The house just so happens to be built atop a "mass grave."
4) One of the couple (the husband, big surprise) goes crazy and appears to be possessed.
5) An animal is mutilated for no good reason.
6) The woman, desperately clutching to her waning sanity goes into town to read about the house in old newspaper clippings.
7) A retired policeman saves the day.

"Nice try," indeed.

This film was made with every intention to tribute all other great horrorfilms in mind! Regard it as the best made 'fanletter' ever done by a great team and cast!

Very very few films are truly original, and horror conventions are fun......

But I'm also tired of people calling bad films "homages" or "fanletters" as an excuse of why it sucks.

This film is poor.

You forgot to mention the bed scene where Ellen wakes up, her legs covered in mud, ala' "pet cemetary". But I enjoyed it though.

Just began watching this film and am horrified by the blatant plagiarism from the Mia Farrow film "The Haunting of Julia." In the beginning of that film, Mia Farrow's daughter chokes to death at the breakfast table. The only differences here are Mia Farrow actually did cut her daughter's windpipe and the child in question here is a male. Although the yellow jacket was a good attempt at a distraction from the obvious, it was immediately clear to me that this scene was completely unoriginal. I am curious to see what else this movie "distilled" from other films.

The scene when the guy gets the splinter moving the desk is very similar to the scene in HELLRAISER when the guy cuts his hand on the nail while moving the mattress up the stairs.

I thought of Poltergeist when the TV was flickering.
