Is Danny Dyer a prisoner?

I just watched the flm and thoroughly enjoyed it. However, i didn't understand what Milwall was doing in prison. Was he a prisoner or what? He acted as one and had to carry out the choirs with the other men but then he was allowed to rejoin the navy and a couple of times he was allowed to wear his uniform.

he is a real prisoner he was in for robbery. he got to wear his navy uniform as a sign of respect at the burial of the other sailor. and in those days they prefered to have people fighting for their country instead of being banged up lol. hope that answers your question :-)
