The play was really good. I bought it on Ebay, thinking it was the book. However, I also bought the book, which should be coming soon. I expect it to be really something. I plan to buy the movie too, but they are so expensive that I am waiting a bit till the price drops. ;)

Basically, the English Warden and the policeman who captured Brendan in the first place decide to allow him to go home after he finds out from a newsreel that Charlie's ship was sunk and Charlie is dead. In the final scene, Liz and Brendan are talking and she shows him a painting of himself with Charlie just behind his shoulder, with his hand on Brendan's shoulder. He tells Liz that he was brought up to hate the English, but that he had to come to England to learn about love. He says love is stronger than hate, and that he learned that from her -- and Charlie. He also says, I had it both ways, just like Oscar Wilde. They hug and he leaves. The final scene is where he arrives in Ireland, exchanges some Gaelic greetings with the man at the immigration desk, and walks offstage. The rest is history, so to speak. He died at age 41 or alcoholism, after becoming one of Ireland's most preeminent literary figures.

Agreed. I especially love the momentous kiss scene...I think it's one of the most tender and romantic kisses in cinema.
