My Theory About B.B.

I came across an article http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4161/is_20020310/ai_n12838812
it says

Behan's family say he was careful to conceal his bisexuality from them during his life. His brother Brian Behan said: "That was a side he kept hidden from me and the family. As a devout Catholic, who later married, he was probably deeply troubled by it."

MY Theory is Since hes a Catholic he didn't want to be bi and was very stressed about it so he start to drink more to reduce it

reply

and this increase in his drinking because of the stress caused his death

Honestly, I don't believe in bisexualism so I don't think it's a struggle to **hide** it like it is with homosexuality. I believe that homosexuality like heterosexuality, is embedded in one's genes, there is nothing one can do about it. Bisexuality on the other hand is a choice. You can be either one but out of curiosity or whatever other reason, choose to try the other dish. So are they saying he is bisexual because of this 1 experience in school or did he later on have sexual relationships with men?

I've always been bisexual- I'm not making any 'choice'- I've always felt that way. When you're bisexual, though, it's sometimes easier to just deny the 'gay side' and accept the straight side because people would accept you more. I've personally been through it so I know what that's like. And Brendan, coming from that time and from a catholic background, probably struggled with it for the rest of his life.

Bisexuality exists whether a person "believes" in it or not. Belief in something isn't what determines if it's real or not.

_______________

Of course it exists. How do you account for the many men who have female partners and children and then cheat on them with other men? 'Bisexuality" is the ability to be sexually attracted to both physical forms. A 100% gay guy, is not going to be able to perform sexually with a female, just as a 100% straight guy, is not going to be aroused or feel comfortable, performing with a member of the same sex. Many women, likely don't want to acknowledge that their male partner may be attracted to men, as they can lose some of their sexual prowess or power over them, or are too naive to see bi or gay as a " true & genuine" sexuality.

The percentage of preference may vary in individuals and this could cause sexual conflict; but at least a "bi" person, (like Brendan), can make a choice of which life they want to lead. A 100% gay guy, doesn't have that option, unless he wants to pretend straight and this is bound to become very difficult at some stage and somethings gotta give.

I feel Brendan made the right choice by shunning Charlie, when he needed Brehan the most, during his attempted rape. Liz shouldn't have even been in the dormitory; but Brendan did tell her would protect her and he did convince her to come along and that nasty little pri@k did attack her. I also feel that Brendan loved Charlie more, than he ever could Liz.

Homosexuals who are in the closet.

reply

True homosexuals who are in the closet and get with a female partner to hide their sexuality, can exist in some secular communities; but if they are performing sexually with their partner and are not arousing suspicion, then they have 'bisexual' tendencies. As a true 100% gay guy, I don't have the slightest inclination to get with a female. This doesn't mean, that all true gay guys are overtly effeminate either: this is an ignorant societal misconstruct. Charlie Milwall, would have been a true gay guy. I have met several guys and gals, that have confessed to me that they are not sure which way to go, as they have sexual feelings for both genders.

At the very beginning when B.B. bought the erotic book, I loved how well they showed his sense of shame about it. He couldn't bring himself to speak the name and just pointed at it, and the vendor picked the wrong book at first. So well directed and acted. And yes, that kind of shame can certainly lead to stress, and to drinking. Great point!
