I think this movie is a real gem

I loved this movie.

My father, grandmother and grandfather escaped to Canada in 1956. This movie takes place 6 years later but I really appreciate this film.

I would suggest this movie for anyone with a Hungarian background but specifically for people whose parents or grandparents left Hungary in the early and mid 1950's.

All performers were great! Scarlet Johansson was amazing; Natasha Kinski did very well in this as did Tony Goldwyn who is a very good actor. I loved the shots of the Hungary as well as the connection between Zsuzsi, such a beautiful name, and her father played by Tony Goldwyn.

A gem, I recommend it.

yes, this movie is a real gem.
a very affecting drama, that, in other hands, might not've worked as well...or even have been reduced to tv melodrama. strong performances all around. and, i especially liked the fact that the actors actually speak the language of the characters in the story. oftentimes - surprisingly - you get period films about non-english speaking characters in foreign settings, done in english. this film's story is so authentic because of this little thing. and, to think that some on other message boards here have questioned scarlett johansson's acting ability...and she was still a girl when she did this.
all in all a moving film. it's a little slow for your average moviegoer, perhaps - even those who like character-driven stories - but, if your eyes don't get a little moist a times during the film (and, especially during the ending), you're either not human or have never felt confused/lost/uncertain...which is the same thing :-)

I loved this movie, too. Such a heartwarming story. It was all the more special to me because Hungary was my paternal grandmother's homeland. The scenery was just beautiful...I hope I can see it for myself someday.

I think all of the actors in the film did a wonderful job but I was especially mesmerized by Raffaella Bánsági's portrayal of "Zsuzsi". What a photogenic & gorgeous child...and her acting was just superb!

It's a shame this movie isn't more well-known. It's 6 years old and I never even heard of it...I just happened to catch it on IFC this morning.

I most definitely RECOMMEND this film.
