Where to next?

Where to next?

I have news for you. God appeared to me in a dream last night and said we had to watch “God, the Devil and Bob” again because we didn't get His message the first time. What do you guys think?

Or we could choose another show. Anyway, in the extremely unlikely chance that someone new has started seeing these posts just now, we're a jolly group of people who likes to watch old TV shows and commenting on them. We've just finished “God, the Devil and Bob,” but you can join in now, and you can participate by helping us choosing the next one.

That being said, all those who wish to continue on to a new show list 2 shows you would like to do next. The guidelines are pretty simple.

1. It should be a one-season show. Special cases outside this rule can be discussed in case an exception should be made.

2. Availability is a tricky little thing. I assume our American friends would prefer it it to be available on Netflix, though that's not entirely necessary, since others may get it from different sources. The important thing is that we try to find a show that is available to everyone.

3. Just as promised when we elected “GtDaB,” the other shows that were voted but lost would be remembered in case you want to give them another shot this time. In that election, the other shows that were best voted were, in this order,
1 – The Prisoner
2 – Day Break
3 – The Middleman

4. Suggestions are open and will close on Sunday November 4th at 10 P.M. That's my 10 P.M, which should be 6 P.M. on your West Coast. Voting will take place from Monday 5th to Thursday 8th. The winner will be announced Friday 9th. There will be one week off for members to obtain the show and then the following Friday (November 16th) we will start.

4. We ask once something is finally chosen do your best to go with it even if it isn't entirely your cup of tea, it's only one season. We have always been able to come to a consensus.

That's it. We have always managed to find something good about every show we have chosen and as hard as it is to believe, some of us have been doing this since January 07.

We are now open for suggestions.

Well, since nobody like my cartoon, I'll take my suggestions this round back to the sci-fi drama:

Caprica and Defying Gravity. Both of which seemed a bit too "soap opera-esque" for my tastes at first blush, but when I got called on that and went back with slightly different expectations I really enjoyed all of the former and the couple of eps. I have of the latter from iTunes.

I'd've gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling kids.

Interesting suggestions. I saw Caprica when it aired, and somehow it still feels so recent. It was a great show, but I'm not sure I would want to see it now, so soon. And I have downloaded the pilot of Defying Gravity. I'm curious about it.

I'm still thinking about my suggestions.

reply

Actually, Defying Gravity is more recent than Caprica. It's just more obscure.

Yeah, but since I haven't seen Defying Gravity, it's all new to me. Caprica (as well as Jericho, for that matter) are shows I followed closely, and as much as I enjoyed them, I'm not sure I'd want to see them again any time soon. I don't know why. Some shows are excellent to watch again, others aren't. I guess Pushing Daisies and Journeyman fell into the category of those which are. Oh, well, I guess it's because PD was really special to me and I didn't remember most details of Journeyman, so in some ways it was like watching it for the first time.

OK, here are my suggestions. They've already been presented.

Total Recall 2070
Day Break

No suggestions for the moment, but a request.

I don't know if any of the gang is a fan of Castle, which stars Nathan (Firefly) Fillion. However, the upcoming episode (Monday, 10:00 EST) involves a murder at some sort of a science fiction event. I'm guessing they'll throw in a Firefly reference just for fun. I know you folks covered that one, but I've seen only a couple of episodes. If anyone is so inclined to watch it, I'd be interested to know if you spot anything.

I would be be up for firefly again...man that was a good show.....

The Castle episode must have been loaded with Firefly references, because even I caught several of them.

• Castle (Nathan Fillion) mentions that he's not really big on science fiction TV shows, but he likes good ones like Star Trek and "that one by Joss Whedon"--the executive producer, writer and director of Firefly.

• The episode was about the murder of a cast member of the fictitious TV show Nebula Nine, which featured a captain named "Max", not "Mal", and a first officer "Chloë", not "Zoë".

• The bad guys in Nebula Nine were a race of cannibalistic mutants called "Creavers", not "Reavers".

• But the best line was Castle insisting that Nebula Nine couldn't have been any good, because it lasted only 13 episodes. Firefly, of course, lasted 14.

Think I'm going to go with.....

1. Jericho (29 eps) 1st season 22 eps canceled but then renewed but only got 7 eps the 2nd season but it does get a chance to wrap to a conclusion.

2. The Middleman

Defying Gravity never heard of it but it's caught my interest. Less then twenty that's a plus.................

Another Odyssey 5?

It seems to me (and I know very, very little about it objectively speaking), it's more grounded in reality (even if it's about space travel), but as far as the personal drama goes, it could remind us of story lines like that with the lady reporter and her sick son, or something like that.

reply

Not too many episodes that could be a plus if it's bad.

reply

yeah, I think we are starting to set ourselves up for really bad shows when we start picking them by the number of episodes the thinking being the shorter the season the worst the show the quicker it was cancelled. Don't know if i'm ready for another O5 show just yet especially if it could be as madp says reporter kid driven story...yuk....

It was just an impression. I'm sure if you read about the show, you'll get a better idea. (However, the more we read, the more spoilers we're likely to come across.) Besides, there will be a few other options, you don't have to make any hasty decisions. Consider all the shows suggested wisely.

I'm not choosing according to the number of episodes. But because of the bad surprises, I'm having to rely on shows which either I have already seen or have enough information about in order to be as sure as possible I won't be disappointed. But I would really like for a new show to be picked, one I've never seen or heard of, and still be delighted about it.

Speaking of delighted, I just saw Little Shop Of Horrors - Director's Cut with my family. It's a movie I really recommend, especially with the ending originally planned for the story.
