..because it sucked?

Anyway, shows get cancelled when they don't bring in enough money from advertisement. Fear didn't, so it was cancelled.

OMG! I totally LOVED this show it was soo great and way scary! I always wondered why it got canceled, thanks.

Are you talking about the show where the gay guy at to lay on the table and then the ghost of the dead sailor in enters him?

My Favorite one was when they had to go into the Pennsylvania Prison, OMG that freaked me out - all of them did that! Haha

MTV's Fear rules!!

Quite possibly, MTV may of simply been SUED by some of the location owners, or something. Maybe they damaged stuff, or something, who knows. I still cant believe MTV has never aired another show quite like fear, its sorely missed, especially these days so close to halloween.

well it's obviously because they had to make room for quality programming like next, room raiders and parental control.

According to wikipedia Fear was cancelled, despite high ratings, because it was overly expensive to produce. Too damn bad, it was a great show & none of the ripoffs that other networks have produced have been nearly as creepy or entertaining.

Yeah mts191 is right, the production values were apparently too high. Not sure why but I guess that is why it was canceled. One other thing I learned back when I was into the show is that MTV manufactured a lot of history of most of the place the people went. I did research on a few places they went and there was no reports of paranormal activity in those places. I remember watching those episodes as well and thinking to myself that these people were mostly succumbing to their nerves. The only episode that stands out to me as being extremely real was the Mina Dos Estrellas two parter. That place was seriously messed up and MTV should not have brought people there to perform the dares they did. It's also the only episode I remember where two dares had to be canceled because of camera malfunctions, the lights went out in the safe room, creepy *beep* was filmed in the safe room, and light batteries seemed to run out before they were supposed to.
Then again maybe this is the type of place a show like this should go to. Could MTV have manufactured all the scares for this place? Maybe they could have. Why didn't they do this sort of stuff with other episodes though?
I think if the show is brought back they should take a more scientific approach to ghost hunting. No more of that insulting possible inhabiting spirits *beep* Some people might not believe in ghosts but there is still a method to investigating hauntings and I think that this show could benefit from following those methods. Stay with the amateur people, stay with them filming their own experiences, but verse them a bit in proper ghost investigation skills for their own safety.
Even if you don't believe better safe than sorry.

so I think the question now would be how did the production values get so high? too much prize money? too much money spent on traveling and renting out locations? Paying crew members to keep quiet about their involvement?

Everything about this show was so mysterious and creepy, including it's disappearance from MTV.

yeah according to Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson (from Ghost Hunters) alot of the names of the places were changed to protect the locations. some of the places allowed their real names to be used. Hawes and Wilson worked on several of the episodes providing research. it's those episodes that actually provide real info on those locations. they have said that on the episodes they didn't work on a lot of stuff was made up. to them the episode featuring Mina dos estrellas was the most haunted location they found for the show but they were concerned about the contestants. they also revealed that, yes, the show was rigged and that some of the things the contestants heard or saw were either crew hiding in the dark or recorded effects piped into the locations. they quit the show when the producers started to do challengers that were dangerous. the final episode Hawes and grant worked on involved the table with the ouija board printed on it.
