What was the point of Human Smoke?

I always thought he was a cheap secret character and a disapointment. In the end, Human Smoke and Scorpion were the exact same characters.

The secret character Chameleon in Mortal Kombat Trilogy was even more pointless. That was a total disappointment - even worse than Human Smoke.

I agree. The female Khameleon for the N64 version was kind of pointless too.

I didn't even know about that. I've only played MKT on PSX-emulator on my PC.
Ah, and my most bitter disappointment in that game was the treasures! Oh, god, they're pointless!

I did some more research, and on this page, you can see why (from gameplay standpoint) Human Smoke does NOT equal Scorpy:

These features of Human Smoke are of course for a "casual" player, who does not play MK competitively only barely noticeable, but for the record, they should be mentioned here.
