This Is A Bump...

A great game, I replay it often.
I love all the secret exits!

Haha very true. Many happy hours spent. I only managed to get that one Star World entrance on an island by fluke. Found it difficult using Mario's cape to get there. All the secret exits I completed save for that one until many years later.

The most difficult one that I remember was one where you had to use a flying blue Yoshi then do a spin jump off him at the last minute because the secret goal was beneath a platform! It was very tricky. I did find a secret exit to one of the first ghost houses and that was years later.
I'm quite obsessive with those games, I have to collect and complete everything. I almost envy people having the internet and YouTube to help out nowadays!

So true. I brought that up earlier - how the gaming experience seemed much more challenging and rewarding when we had to rely on word of mouth or finding a game guide or using a hotline lol.

reply

I used the Nintendo hotline a couple of times, I admit! Playing Yoshi's story.
But yes it was either that, word of mouth, or hoping that one of the gaming magazines gave something away like a tips and secrets section or a walkthrough.

When I discovered Gamefaqs it was "Hallelujah" time! Remember how people used to type out and post an entire walkthrough? Incredible really.

reply

Ha! Yeah I remember copies of walkthroughs being distributed in school. The amount of effort and info gathering in completing levels or discovering secrets made the experience feel so rewarding.
I remember using the hotline for Zelda 64. It took me a month and a bit to complete that game without a guide. Oddly, it took me longer to pass the train level in Goldeneye using the laser watch lol. I think I just gave up for a while and then returned later.
