I will answer this question. Years ago I had the official cheat guide for this game called "Mario Mania". Once you beat all the Star Road levels, you go to another world called SPECIAL, which if memory serves me, features eight levels. The one called "Groovy" is the one seen on the SMW title screen, by the way.

Once you finish the Special world the scenery in all the above-ground levels changes from spring to autumn and a number of the characters look different (Koopas now have Mario heads, and the like).

I finally got all 96 a few weeks ago when I started playing this again. I had 93 gates saved on one adventure log, and I found the last 3.

Have you beaten the Big Boo boss in the Ghost House yet? The Ghost House just above Yoshi's home (one screen up), it's south of the pond, and there's a warp star there too.

Well if the star's there then you've beaten him.

i found out what it was. i beat all the star levels on both the key and gate exits. that got me all 96. nothing special, but i can now say that i officially conquered super mario world.

Did you miss Soda Lake or Chocolate Secret?

I am a grand master at Super Mario World, of all time. I've mastered this game since I was 8. Today, I can beat the game while turned 45-degrees away from the screen. Or beat the game 18 minutes before I run to work.

Yeah, I can beat the levels... it's a pretty easy game compared to SMB3 I think.

I used a stragedy guide but i got all 96 levels, was over a decade ago but it was the first game i recall conquering.

I beat all the levels a couple of years ago on SNES, then again on the DS. It's a great game...perhaps the greatest Mario game there is. The number of levels and secret areas makes for a lot of game play. I enjoyed a lot of the special levels, but one of them (I think the second or third) drove me nuts and took me a lot of times before I was able to complete it.

There aren't 96 levels in this game, there's 96 exits. Finding 2 exits in one levels adds to the total until you get 96. There are around 74 levels all in.
