well for the most part i'd say you picked people who look like the characters very well, the problem I see is in the acting because some of these characters can't act as well as the others and i'd hate to see them ruin the characters

Hey, do I preach to you when you're lyin stoned in the gutter!?

I picked the cast accordingly, from looks, acting ability and physical capability.

I.e. Loren Avedon - excellent martial artist, all American kinda guy who should be able to play another all American vengeful martial artist. and so on!

I cant see why they would ruin these characters if directed accordingly, I bet you many of these actors are much better than the likes of Van Damme and most of the Street Fighter cast!

Also look at the following!

Loren Avedon
Looks like Terry Bogard (His eyes, mouth/smile, jawline etc) – around 80% of his facial features match with Terry Bogard’s and he is also an all American streetwise looking guy with the blue eyes just needs to put on a long blonde hair piece and we have an uncanny resemblance. He can fight like Terry Bogard – will definitely be able to pull off his moves, 3rd Dan Tae Kwon Do and 7th Dan Hapkido. Terry Bogard’s fighting style consists mostly of kicks (where tae kwon do comes in) also some ground fighting and channeling of energy (some of the aspects of hapkido). Also he played a character who goes to get revenge ten years after his brother is killed by a ruthless fighter!

Brad Pitt
Looks like Andy Bogard, same style of long blonde shiny hair and also has a very traditional American look. He doesn’t look like a rugged street fighter type like Terry Bogard but has a very classy look that women can relate to (kinda like the guys in films with Julia Roberts, etc. romcoms) but still very manly and ready for action.
Andy’s fighting style is a traditional style that is a close contact fighting style consisting mainly of punches (just like Wing Chun). If the likes Keanu Reeves can pull off Matrix, Tom Cruise can pull off MI2 and Cameron Diaz can do what she did in Charlie’s Angels then Brad Pitt can definitely pull off Andy Bogard.

Robin Shou
Many people say Tony Jaa should play this guy but what they fail to understand that Joe Higashi isn’t Thai (from Thailand) but he is Japanese. He just does Muay Thai, and Robin Shou has a close resemblance to Joe Higashi cos he has the long hair which can be styled to be spikey, his build is very much like a Muay Thai kickboxer’s body (very well toned and ripped muscles), and his facial features look very much like Joe’s. He can pass for a Japanese fighter! Robin Shou is highly skilled in Wu Shu, so to pull off a few Muay Thai moves won’t be hard from him at all.

Gary Daniels
A British martial artist with black belts in Ninjitsu, Tae Kwon Do, Kickboxing and Kung Fu. He looks just like Billy Kane, as we can see and with the British/London accent he can definitely pull it off. Gary Daniels is also skilled in many weapons being an expert in Ninjitsu (which has alotta weapons training in it) he can definitely wield a long staff like a pro and also in Kung Fu he trained in fighting with a 3-section staff. So he is the best choice for Billy Kane!

Steven Seagal
An icon in the world of martial arts and action films. He can definitely fight like Geese Howard, Geese’s main style of fighting is a very defensive style which uses alotta counter strikes against opponents just like Seagal’s. They both fight wearing traditional Japanese hakama (Aikido gi), their styles are very traditionally Japanese and similar to one another. Seagal being a grand master in Aikido as well as having black belt in Shinto Ryu karate and Kendo.
Seagal and Geese have similar appearances; they are both just as big, same kind of build, the slick back hair (although Geese is blonde and Seagal is dark haired, these things can be changed) and some of the facial features too.
They both have the same type of confidence in fighting too, Geese is very arrogant in fighting and Seagal has played some arrogant characters in his films.

Chuck Norris
He may not look like Jeff Bogard but in his younger days when he just had a mustache he did look a little similar but the reason I chose Chuck Norris to play Jeff Bogard is because of their similarities in personality traits and attitude. Chuck Norris is a positive father like figure and also a very skilled and honorable martial artist, just like Jeff. Chuck Norris’ main style is Tang Soo Do but also has black belts in Tae Kwon Do, Shintoryu Karate and Brazillian Jiujitsu. Playing Terry Bogard’s father he has to have similar styles of fighting too. Loren Avedon being a master of Hapkido and also Tae Kwon Do, both Korean fighting forms like Tang Soo Do. So Jeff Bogard who had taught Terry Bogard as a kid will have to be just as skilled in ground fighting as well, which is where Chuck Norris’ Brazillian Jiujitsu and Loren Avedon’s Hapkido comes in. Jeff Bogard is said to have his own style of fighting just like Chuck Norris who has developed Chun Kuk Do (Universal Way) which can be used by the character in his dojo.

Yasuaki Kurata
A Japanese actor and martial artist. Highly skilled in many Japanese styles of martial arts and also trained in a few Chinese styles too! He looks very much like Takuma Sakazaki, his appearance and facial features too. Just as skilled in fighting, Takuma is a master of Kyokugenryu Karate which is based on Kyokushin Karate, which is also mastered by Yasuaki Kurata. Both are skilled and honorable martial artists with similar likeable personality traits.

Mathias Hues
A German actor and martial artist, is European Heavyweight champion in Tae Kwon Do and Kickboxing. Wolgang Krauser being a German nobleman and a skilled fighter! He is 6’5” tall, very muscular (built like a tank) but an agile fighter. Very much like Wolfgang Krauser who is huge in height and build but is a very fast and agile fighter. Even though Mathias’ hair is blonde and Krauser is dark haired these things are just small differences which can easily be sorted. Mathias has played many ruthless fighter characters in his films and being German as well gives him the edge to play this character well.

Big Van Vader/Leon White
Raiden/Big Bear was actually based on this wrestler, need I say more!

Tammy Lauren
A very beautiful looking American actress; blonde and blue eyed, also has a black belt in Shotokan Karate. She will be able to pull off Blue Mary easily, with short hair and having played a kung fu kicking cop in TV series Martial Law with Sammo Hung.

Sung Hi Lee
A very beautiful American-Korean actress and model. She trains in Kung Fu and is also an exotic dancer, physically very flexible. She has the same glamorous looks like Mai Shiranui, everything from her figure to facial features. Will be able to play a sexy, perky and seductive modern Japanese ninja fighting chick who is obsessed with one man.

Pat Morita (only if he was alive)
Having already played an iconic wise master in the Karate Kid films, this role is right up his alley. Also he has an uncanny resemblance to master Tung Fu Rue, whose characteristics are also very similar to the infamous Mr. Miyagi.

Victor Wong (only if he was alive)
He played a very wise old ninja master in the Three Ninja Kids films, also a quirky but wise old magician in Big Trouble In Little China. He looks very much like Jubei Yamada, who is a wise old Japanese master of Judo but is also a wild and quirky wise old man who loves to party with young girls.

Peter Malota
He is a very highly skilled martial artist, has some of the best kicks in the business. He has played a Spanish fighter in Van Damme’s film The Quest, where his style was Zipota (a Spanish martial arts that uses a lot of kicks like Savate), which is also the style of Laurence Blood. With a beard on his face he would be a spitting image of Laurence Blood, he definitely has the skills to play him and Laurence Blood is also a bit of a dashing matador which I think Peter Malota can easily pull off.

Ho Sung Pak
A Korean-American master of Tae Kwon Do and Wu Shu, he has done many martial arts films and stunt work throughout his career. The Tekken character, Baek Doo San, was actually based on him. Being Korean and skilled in Tae Kwon Do, Ho Sung Pak has quite an advantage playing Kim Kap Hwan. They both do look quite similar and I think Ho Sung Pak has the ability to play a justice minded martial artist like that.

Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa (or Russell Wong)
Russell Wong will be better suited being tall and muscular, so e definitely has the physical attributes down but Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa definitely has the facial looks, which is of a psychopathic nature as he has acted many villains in the past. But I will probably stick with Russell Wong on this one. Fighting wise Yamazaki is a brawler who uses dirty fighting techniques, so not much martial arts skills are needed.

Don Frye
A UFC fighter who has acted in many films, this role won’t be hard for him as he is already skilled in MMA playing Franco Bash won’t be a problem who is a kickboxer. Also he looks very much like Franco Bash, with the muscles, the mustache, everything from his face to body shape.

Vincent Cassell
A very good actor and also a highly skilled martial artist in the art of capoeira, which is also Richard Meyer’s style. He looks like Richard Meyer with the facial features and will definitely be able to act as him. He has a great likeable charm about himself that Richard Meyer does too!

Lateef Crowder
He is very famous for his skills in capeoira, just like Bob Wilson. Who is a young black-brazillian capoeirista just like Bon Wilson. They both have the looks, the skills and I can’t see anyone better to play him.

Sammo Hung
For a fat guy he can sure move and kick ass, just like Cheng Sinzan. They both look so much like one another and also can fight alike, they are both very much the same height and weight. Also Sammo Hung is an excellent comedy actor which is required for a character like Cheng Sinzan.

Donnie Yen
One of the ultimate badasses in film today, a very highly skilled martial artist and actor. Hon Fu is a Hong Kong cop very much inspired from Jackie Chan’s police story character and also the legendary Bruce Lee, he has Jackie Chan’s supercop profession and uses Bruce Lee’s trademark weapon – the nunchaks. His fighting skills are a mix of Jeet Kune Do and kung fu using the nunchaks. Donnie Yen has played Bruce Lee’s role in the Fists Of Fury TV series and is also skilled in Jeet Kune Do and other forms of kung fu. This role is perfect for him as he is also a master with the nunchaks, being Chinese and skilled in various martial arts this role is owned by Hon Fu.

now I will agree with you that the casting for the street fighter movie was terrible (who picked the only non-American to play the only real American role???)and it seems as though you have thought you picked for the roles very throughly, but the problem with having Martial artists act is the fact that most of them can't, and the role of Billy Cane is an awesome anime character that I'd hate to see Gary Daniels ruin like he ruined the role of Kenshiro

Hey, do I preach to you when you're lyin stoned in the gutter!?

Fist Of The North Star should not have been made into a live action film, period. It was definitely better than Street Fighter but it was still bad. My reason for choosing Gary Daniels to play Billy Kane is because Gary Daniels is also a British martial artist who will be able to pull off Billy Kane very well, I think this is the role for a guy like Gary Daniels.

Who would u have casted as these characters? I did put a bit of thought into this thing but I am open to other people's suggestions so do keep them coming!

http://imdb.com/title/tt0109872/board/nest/54510162

reply

well in all reality I am quite sure you could find a British actor who you could teach the staff to (it only takes a month to learn) but I don't really have anyone picked out, I would rather have people who can act who just learn the moves rather then Martial artist do them, but I can understand why you would want people who can do the moves.

and I disagree, FONS could be a great action movie, if done right, it was way to early to make that movie, I think now with the special effects abilities we have we could defiantly make a great FONS movie

Hey, do I preach to you when you're lyin stoned in the gutter!?

and another question I have about ol' Gary Daniels, you said he has a black belt in Kung Fu??? so how does one have a black belt in Kung Fu and what style of Kung Fu is it (Kung Fu just means Chinese martial art and there are over 600 styles of Kung Fu)

Hey, do I preach to you when you're lyin stoned in the gutter!?

reply

Yeah it is a southern style kung fu, I forgot the name of it. I will find out and get back to you. This style concentrates on alot of strong punches and upper body movements, similar to Hung gar (he talks about this in an interview in on the FIST OF THE NORTH STAR special features DVD).
He says how he started off learning kung fu at Hayes Kung Fu club in London back in the 70s and 80s, then did tae kwon do and moved onto kickboxing.
He has also trained in ninjitsu and various weapons as well. Quite an accomplished fighter!

http://imdb.com/title/tt0109872/board/nest/54510162

reply

well yes it sounds very similar to Hung gar, if you hadn't said it was southern i might suggest Hsing-i (but there is also no way to get a black belt in that style) but how does one get a black belt in Kung Fu and be able to say that it is legit?

if Kung Fu has a black belt it is a sign that the teachers sold out and have cheapened there art, now I'm not saying that the belt system is bad, but it isn't Chinese

Hey, do I preach to you when you're lyin stoned in the gutter!?

Kung fu is now institutionalised in the west, it is graded. I understand that kung fu isn't easy to master but with enough practice I am sure anyone can be an expert at it. Many of these martial arts are institutionalised in the west when they are taught.

http://imdb.com/title/tt0109872/board/nest/54510162

reply

I am not doubting the fact that people can master Kung Fu, not at all, I just don't see Kung Fu with a belt system being legit, that might be because the person I learn Kung Fu from is from Taiwan and is very traditional (he has student and master, thats it)

I have a blackbelt in Hapkido and at the moment I am learning Bajiquan Kung Fu, my teacher is a Malaysian-Chinese guy who is a very good teacher and he is just teaching me privately with a few other students and so far none of us are graded with belts but in forms we master. Although I must admit that I have been learning this art for too long.

[deleted]

Yeah it is a hard art and it will take years to master, it is VERY different to hapkido but as a treasure? Does that mean only a selected few are chosen to learn it? I enjoyed Hapkido and now I decided to take up kung fu now. What form of kung fu are you learning?

[deleted]

Tao chi and Xingyi? Good arts! Very internal, yeah Bajiquan is the '8 directional fists', we train in fighting in all directions and so far we have been taught the basic stances and strikes, some of the internal breathing techniques too.
Xingyi is a cool art, have you guys learnt about the pressure points yet?
