saw this in film class

I saw this film in my national cinemas class (i just began my masters) obviously in our japanese week and I can honestly say that its unlike any film ive seen before. i thought at the beginning with the flash sequence of scenes for 10mins that it would be terrible, but the more i watch it i thought 'well, it definitely grabs your attention'. it seemed to me like it encompassed such a plethora of japanese film genres but unfortunately im not very well versed on this subject. could anyone tell me more?

1, im jealous you actually went to school for this,

2, check out other movies by the same director....

....who would recommend (the director that is) for American audiences "Ichi the Killer."

and "IZO", if your that intrigued.

Watch audition, crazy crazy good. sets up slow like a romantic comedy drama or something then WHaM the 2nd half is insane.

'fudoh' is a great reccommendation for american audiences. easy to follow, with a great story. all around good film.

Watch it in school? Ok... In my class we saw "Remember the titans". It must be a rather big difference if you can watch this and in my class we watch pg-13 movies.

Do not think that Miike is all about blood and insanity. Although Audition already gives you some hints of what Miike is also capable of, The Bird People in China (Chûgoku no Chôjin) is a must see. Definatly the most beautiful and heart wrenching film he did to date.
Also, check out his latest piece, Big Bang Love, Juvenile A (46 Oku nen no Koi), a very abstract and stylized gay prison drama.

EDIT: Just found out that 46 Oku nen no Koi is neither listed under its original japanese title nor under the official international title (Big Bang Love, Juvenile A) - it's there as "4.6 Billion Years of Love", for whatever reason.

ted this isn't middle school. he's talking about college and when you become that mature you are able to watch films like this especially if you're going for your masters dealing with film.

ha I "screened" this movie in my animation class, with someones portable dvd player. Ha man was my teacher upset with me. The next day I brought Ichi the killer, than when my teacher saw the ending to Dead or Alive final, she told me never to bring another movie again.

*gasp* OH-MY-GOD! *roll credits* GENIUS!

Your teacher must be quite strict, for shocking cinema I brought in last house on the left to show one of the abusive scenes.
Having only seen Ichi the Killer I can say that Takeshi can make a movie look very stylish and polished for a low budget movie.

haha it's so funny to hear this movie is choosen to screen in a national cinemas class. It's definitely better for your class when choosing movies from other directors such as takeshi kitano or ten shimoyama. if your teacher really enjoy Takeshi, she should pick audition or ichi the killer instead. About this movie, i just can be patient enought to stand it for the first 20 minutes and then skipping it to see how it ends. The movie just show all of the wacky, unconvincing ideals, believe me i know how to appreciate unconventional movie but this movie is just so nonsensical. Moreover, the acting is also horrible. What is so wrong with people, u guys really give this movie 6.8 stars....gosh

I'm shocked that someone can get to the level of a masters in media studies and still not be aware of Asian cinema.
