Russel Crowe or Eric bana

Could Crowe have done a better job as Chopper if given the oppurtunity.Take nothing away from bana though because he was fantastic.

Overall though who is the better actor? Crowe has a better body of work but I think Bana is a beter character actor.

As you said, Eric is a better character actor, Crowe is also great but I think Bana is more versatile, there is something very emotional in his performances, even in movies like Troy, which he made worth to watch it. He´s just unforgetable in Chopper, Munich and Romulus, My Father.

I like 'em both, but would say that Bana was amazing in the role and would be hard to surpass or even equal. I saw this when it came out and loved it and watched Bana move into more wholesome roles (what role isn't?) in Hollywood which he was great in as well. Well Crowe was great in Romper Stomper and also blended into the mainstream as an even bigger star, obviously. Guess, I'd stick with Bana, though.

What a great question!

Crowe's definitely not averse to putting on the pounds, so he'd have no problem physically looking like Chopper.

I think if Crowe did it after the phone-throwing incident, then he'd give Bana a run for his money, because there would be that extra undercurrent of violence that would make him that much more believable as Chopper.

As it stands, Bana has the edge, as Chopper the film is a black comedy, and Bana's history of standup makes it a bit easier to laugh with/at him.

Imagine Hugh Jackman as Chopper! What a disaster that would be lol.

Crowe is a great actor and could certainly handle the role. But it is blasphemous to even suggest Eric Bana's performance could be improved upon.

Crowe has more great movies under his belt, but no individual role of his is better than Bana as Chopper.

I can see why this comparisson exists as it was Crowe as Hando in Romper Stomper that really put him on the map, both actors became 'noticed on the back of low budget Australian films. But Bana 'is' Chop-chop (well at least in the movie world) he has the comedic sensabilities to play the role where I just dont find Crowe as sympathetic a performer.

Bana hands down.

Lol Bana isn't exactly Jesus Christ and it's all rather subjective but yeah, I can't see my self how Bans performance could be improved upon. Equalled yes, but certainly not bettered in my humble opinion. Crowe has had numerous wonderful roles under his belt that have equalled Bana's in "Chopper". Bud White in "LA Confidental", John Forbes Nash Jr. in "A Beautiful Mind", I could go on for a while.

Both of them are amazing actor and perhaps It's unfaur to split hairs but maybe Bana has the edge. I'm not sure. Bana was amazing in "Chopper", "Hulk" and "Troy" although neiither of the latter films were as good. "Troy" wasn't bad while "Hulk" was a bit of a lazily plotted, laborious, dull dud. Performances in the movie however were astonishing right across the board though.
