Why no more movies by M. Walker ?

It's so sad that writer/director hasn't made any movie since "Chasing Sleep", which was a genius film IMHO. Very serious plot and direction. With much style and very subtile scary moments.

I love this movie, it's a pity that almost nobody knows it.

Who does also think that Michael should do another film ?

reply

I agree, he should do another movie soon.

I really liked CHASING SLEEP & I hope more people get to see this movie.

very confusing, still fascinating... i saw it twice in a row, the second time with director's and writer's commentary, trying to understand the ending, but i realized it didn't really mattered if he killed his wife or not, the insomnia and the pills were the main characters, i think!

another film by walker should let us know more about this one too: masterpiece or... horror? or just a lucky touch???

Thanks very much for the info.

You don't know what you're talking about.

Because I directed it, and I'm not Jim Denault.

You tell 'em Mike. Denault is a great DP, but from MY experience on set this was Walker's movie beginning to end. There was a LOT of pre-production this kid clearly wasn't there for and the shots were all mapped out ahead of time. And I know Denault would agree. Whatever PA said this is doing themselves AND all Michigan crew a disservice by talking out of their a$$ about things they don't understand. And behind a screen name no less. Very professional.

George, you're an idiot. You've had a garbage career that boasts one garbage movie. It seems all you do now is roam the internet and read all about your little bundle of joy that you CANNOT and WILL NOT re-capture, all while insulting others like a child.. You're gone. You're nobody. Nobody has ever heard of you. Stop being an idiot, George. Watch your mouth and respect your superiors, George.

So if this is such a garbage movie to you, why would it be so hard to recapture in your opinion? It seems like your stance should be one or the other. Either it's a bad movie, or it's good, but in your opinion he couldn't do it again. It seems like Michael Walker makes movies as a passion. As opposed to churning out a piece of crap every couple of years for a paycheck as many other directors do.

He is currently in pre-production for The Maid's Room. Something he is putting on hold, until it is cast right. He could just sell the script, or push forward with other actors he doesn't feel comfortable with, just to get it made, but he doesn't. An admirable trait for a director.

Also, what do you do for work? I'd like to see how good you are at your job. Unless you have made a better film, are a film critic, or at least know what it takes to make a movie, any statement other than, "I didn't like it," is out of place. Are you really that offended that a director is not happy with others who are trying to give complete credit for his work to someone else?

director's don't sell scripts, nor do they cast. that being said i thought the film was just a modernized tell-tale heart. that isn't to say it wasnt good. i thought the story was told splendidly. it drummed up all sorts of emotions for me watching this film. i am looking forward to more from this guy.

Tarantino sold True Romance, and Natural Born Killers as one example of you being wrong. Directors absolutely cast leading roles, not always, but they definitely are involved in the casting process if they choose to be. Where are you getting this info?

I love it when the imdb forums has people actually involved in the movie. The director himself? That's a first.
Sadly, when it happens, they usually get insulted by internet haters.
How much can one dislike a film that it would make him want to insult the director straight to his face?

In case you do come back, Mr Walker, I would like you to know that I watched Chasing Sleep last night for the fist time, and loved it. I'm probably gonna watch it again, and for sure I will recommend it to friends. There. I'm glad to get to tell people I liked something they did when I can.

genius? No-- but it was a very meticulously written and directed film and I enjoyed it for what it was...

But I do think it was "overly" meticulous and would have benefited from tighter editing and cutting out 10-15 minutes-- as other posters have noted, this is basically a contemporary version of "The Tell-Tale Heart" and the secret/mystery of the film is "outed" itself halfway through.

But the genius of "The Tell-Tale Heart" really lies in the dramatic tension created in the way the lead character "loses it"-- so either this film needs to increase the complexity of the mystery and/or character, or just lose some of the repetitive details.

If you care enough to go around telling people you don't care... you obviously care.
