what happened?

Does anybody know what happened to the people in this movie? Did anyone of the kids manage to get clean, or are they all still strung out or even dead?

I read somewhere that there should be some follow up from 2004, has anyone seen that ?

reply

i have. jake eventually quit heroin and went on methadone, but he felt so much pressure to get off of methadone he ended up going back to heroin and overdosing. he's deceased.
tracy cleaned up. her boyfriend that was shooting up in his neck overdosed.
nobody knows what happened to jessica
oreos girlfriend overdosed. the other girl has been clean for a while.
and i forgot the rest.

reply

When you mentioned two of the people overdosing, do you mean they died from the overdoses? I understand that Jake died from overdosing but what about the other two?
So no real update on Oreo then?
And the girl who has been clean for a while must be "Alice."
I wonder what Tracy is finally doing, now that she cleaned up. She would be probably 34 years old by the time the update was done. I think she was the oldest of all the addicts profiled with the exception of maybe Ben, her abusive boyfriend. She had said she had no job skills and couldn't fathom what she would do out in the real world once she got off the junk. I do wonder what she is doing....
I tried to upload the necessary files on the two sites recommended and was not able to do so because I have AOL. Says AOL is not permitted entrance.

reply

oreos girlfriend is dead from overdosing. tracys ex boyfriend is dead from overdosing.
oreo disappeared. no one knows what happened to him.
tracy went to school and became a counselor.

reply

how do you kow all this,is there something i can watch or read about. thanks .

reply

in 2004 there was an update on their whereabouts narrated by tracy.

reply

Really? Do you have a link to any info on this?

reply

Can you post a link to this?

reply

Hi, I was wondering how did you find the info for the follow up? I"m having trouble finding it.. thanks!

reply

the person i bought the dvd from had a follow up on the dvd that was filmed years later, i believe in 2004. i think that's when hbo ran a special on what happened to them. you won't find it anywhere on the internet. no where that i know of anyway.

Here's the update on youtube

reply

If anybody has a link to the 2004 update, that would be excellent.

It was included on the special features on the DVD... so I doubt nobody has uploaded it. It would also be nice to read an article about their updates. If Tracy really got clean and became a counselor, then that' awesome! Good for her.

Jessica seemed the most messed up. It was really sad to see her at the end. This was a great documentary!

reply

Dont think there is a chance in hell that jake got clean, he seemed super *beep* up.. thought he had the worst story of em all

reply

jake went on methadone, then back to heroin and then died.

Dope Sick Love, about two addict couples in NYC - powerful and distressing.

I told you when I came I was a stranger

reply

Yeah, I just saw "the Dark end of the street" tonight, man, it was so heartbreaking. I want to get "Dopre sick love" for x-mas, I've never watched it b4 but it seems interesting.
I wonder what happened to Oreo? That's sad that he is missing. ALl of them had such sad lives. Jake and Jessica were so heartbreaking.

reply

from the lot, alice came across as the bubblegummer and the one who would pass that stage of her life.

reply

Alice just celebrated 8 yrs clean. She looks amazing and is living the dream! NA works!

reply

i would really like to see the 2004 update

reply

for future reference, i wouldn't waste your time with dope sick love. the people in it are completely unsympathetic, it's really hard to feel bad for them. they lack the heart and regret and sadness that these people had. they're sleazy and seem perfectly content with the way they are. i wish the update were online somewhere... i live in san francisco and my curiosity is driving me crazy, it makes me want to seek them out myself, haha.

reply

Well that doesn't really matter right? I mean I watched Dope Sick Love because I'm interested to see what kind of life they have, I don't really care if they are sympathetic or not.

The fact that she appeared in a Documentary about her addiction would kind of undermine her Anonymity wouldn’t it?
