Transexuals

From the opening scene, with the prostitute running away from the bed and standing beside the wall, I swear that looked to be a man's body with breast implants. I think her friend that came to pick her up at the train station was transexual as well. I probably wouldn't have noticed except that after I found out that the woman in the red pumps in Argento's "Deep Red" was a transexual I began to pay closer attention to the "ladies" he casts. I think Dario is very progessive, open-minded and I appreciate that in his films.

The one in the opening scene & on the train who's also on the cover HAS to be a transvestite.
I could see that straight away, well before any clothes were removed.
I'd be very surprised if it wasn't a transvestite.

(If it isn't, my deepest apologies to the actress)

That's exactly what I thought.....

Yes, I thought this as well. The scene with her/his body on show would suggest so - though it could have been a small framed woman with ill advised breast implants. Still, a rather strong jaw bone and the nagging thought of Tenebrae (which this film reminded me a lot of) would suggest that Dario was toying with the audience.

You guys may be right. She did seem a bit masculine.

Btw, I've always wondered how the killer managed to get on the train to kill her. Typical Argento plot hole.

reply

I dont mean to sound persnickety but the movie with the transexual was "Tenebrae" not "Deep Red"

What I remember from "Deep Red" was a very effeminate gay man in heavy make-up (someone could mistake him from a transvestite though). As a matter of fact, he was Carlo's (Gabrielle Lavia) lover.
I remember no transgender person in Tenebrae (I do remember a lesbian couple), and to be honest I didn't realize the prostitute was either.

Aww, poor Barbara. You guys are all wrong! Barbara Clerici who played the prostitute is a real female and was even engaged to the actor, Stefano Dionisi who played Giacomo in Sleepless at some point.

The woman in the red pumps in Tenebre, not Deep Red, is a MtF, but Carlo's gay lover in Deep Red was actually played by a real female, Geraldine Hooper.

Glad to see there is someone who care about her name.
Actually I noticed I made a mistake typing a wrong surname, but was too lazy to edit the post. lol
