100 must see HK movies

The Hong Kong film commission recently included this movie on its list of the best HK movies of all time. It's going to be shown in the cinema as part of the festival. Wish I had the time to go, I saw it once in the cinema and it was amazing.

Here's the festival brochure

There's a lot of old b&w movies included that I'd never heard of and very few from the last 15 years
What movies would you include?

indeed, many movies from way before i was born. i guess the list was compiled of rather old people? o_O

if i were to add some to the list it would be: infernal affairs, running out of time and ip man.

i bet you have seen infernal affairs and ip man before so i'll not talk about these movies. if you haven't seen running out of time yet, i'd really recommend this movie. it's basically a cat & mouse movie just a bit like infernal affairs (without the mole stuff). if you like in which the movie plays mind games with you, then this is a great movie to watch, great performance by both andy lau and lau ching wan.

i was glad to see that bruce lee made it in the list, only with one movie but i guess it's because the other movies weren't directed/produced by bruce lee himself in china/hong kong.

i was almost gonna yell there was no single movie by stephen chow, then luckily there was one, a chinese odyssey, not his greatest movie imo, but i guess the people who compiled this list had different standards than me :P

Maybe the critics were worried about appearing too popularist, or maybe they were trying to revive interest in the old forgotten movies. I wonder how many people actually went to see these old movies though. At a festival a few years back I went to see The Butterfly Murders and 6 people turned up. I also saw Long Arm Of The Law and only 20 came to that one. Most of those movies aren't on DVD and probably never will be.
The movies you mentioned should be on the list and maybe in 10 years they will be, especially Infernal Affairs which is a modern classic. Another couple of movies that should be on the list are the Election movies.
