How does the stealing of luck work exactly? (spoiler)

I am not sure I get it right: if the gifted person touches somebody, he steals their luck and "charge" himself with it. He can then choose when to use it (such as in the games they played) or it discharges automatically (such as when Tomas was saved in the crash). And ONLY THEN do the people he had touched have bad luck to compensate for his good luck?

Because if it meant bad luck for them automatically, how could foe example Ana have survived so long - she touched with Tomas all the time.

But even if it worked the way I suppose it does, how come Ana didn't have bad luck the time Tomas was saved from the crash? It was a very lucky event for him, perhaps even more than when Tomas's rival won the game in the forest - and Ana was shot by the policeman as a compensation for his luck then.

I think your pretty much right with regards to the way the luck stealing works.

As far as Ana is concerned, I think the reason she got shot was because Tomas had actually gambled (unknowingly) and lost her Luck to the bullfighter. It was her luck, specifically that was being played with. When he was on the plane he must have just stolen the luck of everyone that he had touched on the plane, hence they all died to compensate.

Also, if they were constantly having to make compensations how could Ana, or Sara's family have been around very long at all, not to mention anyone they ever touched. I think it must just be related to massive events that require an awesome amount of luck, the examples we are shown, the plane crash, the car crash and the concentration camp, were all life or death situations.

Don't forget - Ana was also a "lucky one" for not even getting on the plane (that's why her photograph was so powerful). So if Tomas touching her got her luck, then her touching Tomas got HIS luck and it all evens out...

Sheeeesh! have you never heard of suspension of disbelief?

(I'm just a bear of very little brain - what's your excuse?)

I completely agree with your theory Sr Gonzales, however I have just watched the movie and if I have seen right, Ana doesn't touch Tomas. (The closest she gets to touching him is when she is removing his blind fold towards the middle of the movie before Ana is getting knocked out).

The other question is; what happens if both "gifted" people touch each other? I think the idea is that the one, who has accumulated more luck by then, gets all the other person's luck.. Would you agree?

Another one is - that I can't really crack; what the hell with the photos? :)
It's just a trophy of the people whose luck was taken?

Tomas probably touched his girlfriend a few times but the toreador guy never touched him, which means that he can't "posess" Tomas's girlfriends luck, so Tomas shouldn't be upset about it.
Unless by simply competing against each other can make this transfer in luck from the loser person to the winner one..

What do you think?
