Be honest which one do you like more this or RZH2?

Both are widely considered the worst of the franchise(aside from 3,5 & 6) but which one do you like more and why?

I personally adore Halloween:Resurrection I think it's different,unique & cool.
I loathe RZH2 tough I think the film is just a mix match of different ideas from other Halloween films and Horror films in generally with a hard on the eyes visual pallet look to it.

RZH@ was horrible. Michael doesn't speak or grunt, Loomis and Laurie were terrible people. Every character was unlikeable and it was sad ending to a storied franchise.

Resurrection did a lot of things right. Good casting of Michael, the house looked right, Haddonfield, back to killing teens not family. There were at least some likeable characters.

Resurrection

I didn't mind Rob Zombie's Halloween but H2 was GARBAGE.

reply

Yeah Rob Zombie's first Halloween film had some level of conpentacy in it's creation it's a terrible film but it was at least well made.Rob Zombie's second outing with the franchise was complete insult and big middle finger to this beloved franchise and it's fanbase.

Zombie H2 was pretty terrible. HR is at least good for a laugh.

Rob Zombie's Halloween II for sure. I think it is underrated and one of my favorite films in the series. I love the dark mood and atmosphere and it actually feels like Halloween (the holiday). Plus I love the psychological element with Deborah Myers, young Michael, and the white horse. It really made it different and set it apart from the other sequels in the series.

Depends om your point of view, I suppose. On one hand, it wasn't what fans were expecting, the furthest thing from a Halloween they've ever seen and it backfired, for the most part as it is universally panned by many of the fans. On the other hand, I do give him props for thinking outside the box and being different, A for originality, but there are just some things that weren't necessary. The uber violence, putting his wife in yet another movie (ok for the flashbacks, but not as a ghost). The total devolution of loved characters Loomis, Laurie and Annie.

He basically tore it all down and left it with a hopeless ending. Not something you'd expect. No one really likes unhappy endings. The franchise and his own career in films didn't soar after this one.

What exactly do "happy endings" have to do with horror movies?

Anyone here mentions Hotel California dies before the first line clears his lips.

Every horror movie I've seen up until the 90s had survivors. Happy ending for them. They lived. Every Halloween, Friday, Nightmare and all the in betweens had at least one person live and not end up dead. That's what I meant. Movies were everyone dies, bleak weak endings, no one wants to see that. A few times it was shocking/unexpected, but now it's just cliche. 90% of found footage are no survivors, but thankfully otherwise they dropped that.

For a movie to be successful, any genre, there has to be a glimmer of hope, satisfaction. Why do you think endings and movies are re-written after test screenings? Poor audience reception.

Granted, there are movies where you expect it, but you want to still see how it turns out.

So that's what it's got to do with horror movies.

Who is "no one"? Just because happy endings are your preference doesn't mean there aren't those who can appreciate a down, bleak or even ambiguous ending. Hell, I'd argue the original Halloween had anything but a happy ending.

reply

Well, first, no one happens to be the audience. Sure you can get away with it for certain movies with ambiguous endings, like Body Snatchers, Halloween III or the Thing, to name a few, which aren't unhappy as the audience decides on it's own. Second, if it was more popular and people liked it, unhappy would've been done a lot more.

No, truth of the matter is, studios and audiences like having "open ended" films where the killer dies (but not really, if there's sequels involved) and survivors.

As for Halloween, Loomis lived, Brackett lived and Laurie lived a good 20 years+
and had a son, which isn't an unhappy ending. Resurrection was her unhappy ending. If she really died. Again, no body, no proof, no dialogue stating so. But that's neither here nor there. The ending of Halloween is "evil is everywhere" no sequel was even thought of at that point.

Had it not been for a couple of good reviews, we wouldn't even be on this board, much less discussing Halloween's ending. I don't see how people living after the credits can be seen as unhappy.

Because their lives are forever altered by the trauma they experienced? 

I mean, I'm not trying to link the sequels with Halloween's ending. I think as is, it's kinda grim on its own. Laurie is shell-schocked, borderline catatonic. Her friends are all dead. Her life will never be normal from here on out. But if we want to take H20 into account, Laurie is a miserable mess 20 years later. Hardly a happy ending there either.

I just don't see it as being as black and white as you. "Well, they survived. So, happy ending!" Not quite.

Resurrection by FARRRR is worse than RZH2! I mean i know im in the minority but i actually really like the Rob Zombie ones. Res is just kinda embarrassing i mean Busta Rhymes and Tyra Banks? Freaking really! I mean i know RZH2 has Weird Al but at least hes only there for like 2 short scenes. Res is more Halloween Parody, not to mention its incredibly dated now. H20 was better but was kind of the start of it i mean LL cool J and freakin Creed playing over the end credits ugh.
