Main themes, imagery, and metaphors

I watch this movie over and over and every time I pick up on something new...the chains are an obvious metaphor but the blindness is interesting..it's obviously alluding to the fact that Inez is blind to the fact that flowers is the truth lover, but near the end she's blnded in both eyes...saying it takes her being blind to actually see?? And then there's the chicken she kills at dru's place, I know that's a metaphor but I'm not sure for what? I like that they show flowers listening to opera in his broken down camper.. Showing he's obvously a lot more intelligent than he lets on. I like the astral travel themes in the movie, think it's a parallel for what Inez really wants..to "dream herself to a better place." It's what drives her to do everything she does in the movie, including hate flowers in the beginning.
I also think it's interesting that she loved dru because he offered her an escape from her white trash existence, while dru loved Inez because she brought him back to his existence. Both were basically just using each other.
Idk, I'm probably a huge geek right now but I love this movie and wish it got more recognition because for an hour and forty minutes it packs such a punch

Your theory works. Correction though it was a duck she killed not a chicken. I think it was plain & simple. A poor wrong side of the track girl wanting to escape into this dream world and the lawyer saw a girl he could save think he wanted to hv her as his pet per se making a stand against his family. But I like your theory as I was watching it (now) I was able to understand the movie so thank you for that.
