Have you ever made any of the dishes featured on Iron Chef?

Just curious.

i'm a professional chef, and while i've never faithfully recreated any dish i've seen on either iron chef show, i have drawn IMMENSE inspiration from the show, and i've built a number of dishes based on combinations of a few ingredients, or methods, etc, that i've seen on the show.

the american attitude tends to suggest that 'if it's on t.v., it's only SO legit', but these guys are seriously amongst the best chefs in the world, and sometimes the things they do are as close to original as one might find in the culinary world.

I agree with the poster above... I honestly think many of the chefs on IC are among the finest in the world (and a very high cut above a lot of "celebrity chefs" we get on TV these days).

While I've made dishes that appeared on IC, I've never attempted one of their versions directly, however (again, as the Imtheknife said), I've been very inspired by and learned a LOT from the cooking.

Not possible for most people...the ingredients are sometimes TOO rare there's no way you can get your hands on them...especially the ones native to Japan and are still fresh and moving.

I was experimenting with textures and tried mushroom puree in a simple white sauce with a little cheese, and with sliced mushrooms. (regular button mushrooms, BTW)

Well, it turned out like a mushroom smoothie. It was really quite odd, the taste was faithful to the mushrooms, but the sauce and puree together had this odd grainy, slime texture that was almost vomit inducing. The color was also very unappealing, it looked like liquefied scrapple.

An interesting failure, not really anything copied from IC, but I will claim inspiration.

I am curious if folks with more exposure to varied textures would have liked it.

I recreated Chen Kenichi's Prawns in Chili Sauce, which is apparently Chairman Kaga's all-time favorite dish from the show. It turned out great.
