That would be useful.
My parents think we're probably the only family in Australia who sits down on a Friday night and gets excited about watching Unit One.
They're probably right.
But it's addictive. Kinda sucks you in. I have really come to like this show, despite the bright yellow subtitles SBS uses.

it's really good isnt it? I'm from Sweden so we viewed it subtitled there too. I like Mads Mikkelsen a lot, he's brilliant and now we're going to see a lot more of him as he got the part as villain in the next Bond movie.

I wonder if they will ever get around to doing the american version...Doubt it, but it may be cool if they do....

reply

I mean no offense to any Americans, but I think taking this show and turning it American would ruin it.
It's brilliant the way it is.

And I may actually see the next Bond movie now Mads is in it.

Well, making an american version, would be mainly for thea mericans, most of whom have never seen the original. If you have see the Danish version, sure it would be a bit odd, but thats almost always the case with re-makes....Doesnt mean it wont work for someone who hasent seen it... .Anyways, im pretty sure the project is dropped....

reply

They should NEVER make an American verison, not like as they did with Lars von Trier's "Riget" (The Kingdom) which turned in to the boring American version "Kingdom Hopsital".

believe me you aren't!
I have a few danish friends, and I speak a wee little bit of dansk. Really sometimes the subtitles are shocking! Dont ever use Unit One as "dansk homework" hahaha not like this country (in NSW anyway) offers Danish as a subject, at tafe or high school. I have no idea about uni though.

Just wanted to let you know that there is at least one other family who sits down on Friday night and gets excited about watchng Unit One - my wife and I. We think it's a brilliant programme. Cheers, Steve

I'm in Australia and I love this show as well.
There is an interesting interview on SBS Danish Radio about the subtitling. The intro is in Danish but the interview is in English. Copy this link into your browser and it is the first inteview on the page dated 20.10.2005.

I'm in Australia also (Victoria) and love this show. So well made and a great cast. I only discovered it in the last few years when it was on Thursday nights after 'Inspector Rex' so probably repeats of repeats?

I got talking to some Danish tourists during a lunch break on a day trip out of Darwin in October 2007. I couldn't remember the Danish name of the program but, after a bit of chat, we worked out the show I was talking about. They were a little surpirsed that it would be seen and enjoyed so far away.

You're not alone! You're never alone when it comes to GREAT TV police drama that has no equal.
I, like many, had never heard of "Unit One" but I enjoy a good police drama. One night after the earlier show had finished my TV set was still on SBS at 8.30pm and although I wasn't watching I could here the audio in Danish. After a while I got sick of listening to a language I knew nothing about and got up to change stations when something made me sit down and watch. That was episode 2 or 3, since then I haven't missed a minute! I even found the late night Friday MA episode and I have it on my recorder.
There's one thing I'm certain about, there's no other police drama that can come close to how really good this show is! It's a once in a lifetime production that not only gets you in, but has all the hallmarks of brilliance.
And yes all my family congregate around the TV set every Friday night at 8.30pm and that includes the mad footy watchers, they wouldn't miss it!

I'm another Australian who looks forward to this show every week. I like the characters and the fact that there are people of all ages with interesting story lines--unlike Home and Away, etc. where everyone is young, beautiful and boring. Det Fischer is my favourite character on TV at the moment (I like Lacoeur and Ingrid as well). By the way, do you think there is going to be some romance between Fischer and Gabi?

reply

I cant even watch Home and Away... that show scares me. Unit One is such a good show, it doesnt have any of those cliches you get on all the American Cop drama's Australia always seems to have on it's TV. It's so nice for a change to have something on prime time thats actually good, and its foreign (I love the sound of Danish, I'd never really heard it before). I discovered it a little while back and have found that every episode never has a boring part. You know, usually there's a part perfect for a toilet dash or something. But not in this show, I'm stuck to the sofa the whole hour and then get annoyed when 9:30 roles in. My favourite character is Fischer of course but all of them are such well-rounded characters its hard to choose. But last episode, the one that was at 11:40, I swear there was a Gaby/Fischer thing too, more so on Fischers part though. Oh well, I just wish they'd release it on DVD. Such an awesome show, I'll be sorry when it ends.
