DVD versions

I remember seeing this on UK TV years ago and taping EP 2 and 3 when they were on. I recently bought an import DVD that was published by Anime Studio Hong Kong (I think, a lot of the relevent text is kanji) but the opening music is different. The english dub is the same as far as I can tell. Another difference is the prisoner files for Benten, Sengoku and Gogul on the opening credits are in japanese kanji as opposed to english (I think the Manga UK released VHS version had this).

Does anyone know of a DVD version like the one I'm talking about? I saw one of Amazon.com called Cyber City: Final Collection. Does anyone know if this is the version I'm after? Thanks.

All english speaking versions released so far have the original japanese score, not the score by Rory McFarlane, which is only avaiable on VHS. The japanese score is crap, god knows why they do not release a Rory McFarlane version, his music rocks.

Damn, that's a shame. :( The original title music was so good. Shortly after posting that last night I did manage to find the music on a fan site but it would be nice to have the DVD of the version with the original score and western text.

Thanks for clearing that up for me though. Appreciate it.

I have CCO The Final Collection on DVD. I picked it up at Giant Tiger for $4. Sweet! It is one of the better cyberpnk series ever made. The music on this version is kind of bizzare. Good mood music bit the songs in between episodes are laughable. There is a lot of hardcore swearing in the english dubbed version that might put off some viewers but the animation is superb. Fans of Ninja Scroll will not be dissapointed. For great anime I would recommend Haiyo Myazaki for the whole family (with the exception of Princess Mononoke which is more violent) , Matsume Shiro for more adult oriented audiences and Yoshaki Kawajiri for the hardcore fans.

I bought the Jap version and to my dismay.. found the ultra-cool title music had changed to some numpty Jap chick singing some Eurovision Entry.
If you can get the US/UK version - then do so.

It was still a cool series.

reply

well then im glad i picked up the CD of this several years ago. MangaUK need to get their butts in gear and release these like they did with AD Police.

Ahh this reminds me of the days of Manga Mania when anime was cool and cultish, now its all just over exposed rubbish and endless serials

I have enquired with Manga uk, and they have advised me they no longer have the rights to Cyber City, so they won't be releasing it :(

reply

aww that sucks but someone else might pick up the rights or somewhere down the line Manga uk will pick it up again. I'd like a DVD with both scores on it as an extra.

i have the final collection. the kanji is...dubbed...?

I've seen a couple of good fanrips on torrent sites where the audio of the manga uk version has been spliced with the dvd version, I have the VHS version aswell but the dvd is no fun without the Rory McFarlane soundtrack.

reply

Damn how they know where and which track goes with that piece from the 3 episodes though. Oops...., silly me. Unless of course they use the VHS version as a guideline of sorts!

Riiiight!

Still haven't seen the VHS version in years, although i do have the Rory McFarlane OST of the OVA's though! Was a little lost in knowing where they belong in the OVA's is what i'm really asking? Does anybody know where these fan rips can be located. All i need is a point of reference.

Could take my DVD's of CC and use ConvertXtoDVD on PC to make my own Eng/Jap tracks with alternate versions between them both etc.
