Disappointed?

Was anybody else disappointed with this movie? I personally thought the idea of the 4 continuous takes was really really well executed, the directing was great, the improvisation and acting was well done... but the movie overall and the story just kinda sucked, and it just wasn't very interesting. The only parts I thought were interesting were when one of the characters would bump into one of the other characters in 2 screens. Anyone else think that?

Yeah the movie is very smart. Some, closed minded, people will say it was confusing or hard to follow, but I think sound was used wisely in the film too. I dare anyone to say the actors didn't do a good job because to synchronize the scenes the way they did, but have been difficult. Great idea. Great movie.

Good idea, incredibly boring movie.

I totally agree, great idea, but was just really boring, it could have been done a little more exciting.

To me it seemed like the idea was more important to the filmmakers than the story. Hence, boring movie.

I agree with you. This movie was very creative but the dialogue, because it was all improvised, was not the best it could be. If the film had a script, it would have been much better. However, with all of the dialogue unscripted, it was not enjoyable to watch. Well made on the technical side, but really really awful dialogue. I also agree very much with your statement that the only interesting parts were when characters on one screen met up with a character from another screen, and you see the exchange simultaneously from two angles, miraculously, you do not see a camera in either shot.

"Enough of that technical talk, Foo!"

It seems like everyone bitches about Hollywood not taking chances, but then when a filmmaker tries to do something different they bitch about it not being good enough. Change and experiments have to start somewhere. I thought it was a really interesting film, and Figgis chose great actors with good instincts. This is a film which presents the viewer with possibilities, and extends the perameters of what they ordinarily might watch. If it makes a viewer think a little about the way films are normally presented and the power structures of director and audience, it did its thing.

Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD... Absolutely tedious...

I thought the movie was wonderful. It's a great challenge to sync 4 different takes into one continuously flowing story and with such clarity. The director and the cast deserve all the credit. I don't see what really is the fuss all about! I'm sure none of those bit*hing about the movie being not good enough, don't really see the complexity that's involved in making such a movie. Guess it's always easy to criticize other's work sitting on a couch.. oh, well.....

Cool concept and a couple of hot lesbian kissing scenes.
