I read he wanted to play the part his own way and didnt watch the original Robocop,I thought that was very odd. I then purchased these four films for £2.90 from ebay ,I watched the first part. I now find it hard to believe anyone involved with this mini series had ever watched the robocop films. why didnt cable know right away it was alex murphy?everyone in robocop 2&3 called him murphy it was common knowledge.it was the worst thing involving robocop i'd ever seen,i#m sure the cartoon is even better than this.

Robocop 1-3 take place, Then Prime Directives. The thing is though....John Cable is the "new guy" at the station in PD and Robocop: Prime Directives takes place 10yrs after part 1 (Robocop 1 is set in 1990) Alex Murphy was killed in 1990 (this is marked on his grave stone in PD) so the year is 2000 and most of the cops if not all except for Robocop from the previous 10 yrs are more than likely gone for some reason or another. Even sgt reed is gone. so outside of some Techs and some OCP Gold level members...no one knows Robocop was once Alex Murphy. John Cable doesn't know what went down in robocop 1 2 and 3 unless it was on the records, and Murphy becoming Robocop was on the records and [CLASSIFIED] so he had to hack into those records when he starting putting the pieces together.
so it wasn't as "common knowledge" as you think.
Anne Lewis Sgt Reed MAYBE some OCP members from the first film and some Techs in each movie/prime directives knew but couldn't talk about it without worrying about OCP having them have "accidents". i'm not even sure Sgt Reed knew. thats a guess.

Cable was Murphy's partner at Metro South. Murphy was later transferred to Metro West where he met Lewis, Reed, etc. in the movies. So Cable wasn't privy to everything that happened in the movies. On the other hand, RoboCop was such a public figure you would think that his identity as Murphy would be public knowledge all across Detroit.
That's probably one of the reasons the timeline makers like to say that this movie is a sequel to the first movie only and ignores 2 and 3.
