Jessica and her father

Sorry if this has already been discussed- did anyone else notice the moment with Jessica King and her father, when they are dancing at the country club and she kisses him on the mouth? Whenever I see this scence I feel like they have this incestuous relationship. Any comments?

I thought there was something a little odd in their relationship myself, but it wasn't explored in the film at all. Maybe they would have seen that as cliche?

I noticed that also and the first thing that popped into my mind was "ew, I couldn't kiss my father on the lips".

I think She had been sexually abused by her father, people who are tend to do one of two things in regard to sex; run from it or run to it. Seeing as she was sleeping with any man she could I say she ran to it. Also her behaviour with her father not just the kiss was way off base.

Yes & I was thinking the same thing as some of the other people around here---at first it was "Dad"? & then, Yuck! I'd never be on my dad like that. Nauseating!

I kiss my dad on the lips all the time, but it's a the same quick peck I have always kissed my mom with it as well. In my culture it's very normal. And even for me, her long lingering kiss was too much and vile. Not innocent at all!

I kiss my dad on the lips too, but always a quick peck. When they kissed it definitely looked like a romantic kiss. I kinda figured she was sexually abused.

The kiss was in the movie to suggest that the father might be a suspect.

I'll tell you in another life when we are both cats.

I had the same thoughts as well when I watched the movie!

The whole scene was creepy! She was looking at her father with lust, and they didn't act like the normal relationship between a father and daughter should have. I felt like they were looking at each other and touching each other way too much!

reply

They could have gone in that direction, but it would have been a little too much like

I read a book about the movies of Sam Raimi and the actor who played Jessica's father said that was put in the movie as a red herring to make the audience think he could have killed her.

reply

Yeah it was a little more than a peck on the mouth. And she was such a slut. I go the impression daddy was a little too familiar either that or she was a spoiled brat and just didn't give a damn about other people's feelings. Some molested children become promiscuous because they associate sex with love. As in daddy loves you very much while he molests. Gave me the creeps.

reply

Yea I noticed the whole lip locking with her daddy thing. I think Jessica was flirty with any man who showed her attention. Some women are like that, even with family members.

I would not say so at all.

What I would say is that Katie Holmes did an excellent job as an actress of capturing the pace of Southern life, which is not in a hurry to hug, embrace and break away lightning fast before it looks "funny" like you Yankees would think. This is especially remarkable when you consider that she hails from Northern Ohio where the pace is FAST!!!

What she exhibited in her encounter with her father was simply a slow gesture at a speed typical of the South, its warmth and its charm---nothing more. It did perhaps help to convey how much she was adored and coddled and perhaps spoiled which makes for an interesting complication concerning how a "good man" as he says, like her fiance could be driven to do what he did.

I have totally omitted that. Good point, versus the obviously obsessive blue diamond tattoo. That blue diamond tattoo has been so common and had has more credits for comments, even stupid ones, sorry for those people, cause that was a legitimate relationship: disturbed sexual Buddy versus Donnie ( and they have said that Keannu Reeves always was a bad good actor. What a puzzle. ) Thanks for the tip. English is not my mother's language, grammar may been broken, yet I am interested in this observation. I am leaving here my email, just for you to use.
