reeves and swank...ouch

this is a great supernatural flick set in Luisiana swamps..what one can wish for..?...the whole movie is spoiled by the two worst actors in there...Reeves and Swank..Reeves had some good movies if not great acting performance is required and Swank..never liked her in a single movie, really
they both should fade into oblivion hopefully it is happening and let's forget that embarrassing Oscar win for Swank
otherwise it is a great movie

Swank won TWO Best Actress Oscars - for Boys Don't Cry and Million Dollar Baby, neither embarrassing.

reply

Exactly! I also really liked her in Freedom Writers.

you dissin a dual oscar winner and the star of a cult trilogy.
you one tuff critic!

I thought you were going to comment on them having no chemistry, which I would've agreed with. When I think "embarrassing Oscar win" however, Hilary Swank in the furthest actress from my mind.

reply

Yeah, no. Keanu gets criticized enough as an actor but many who are not particularly fond of him would agree that he delivered a standout performance in this. You could have had any "legit" great actor in the role of Donnie, and honestly I don't think they would've been that much better than Keanu...

You want something corny? You got it!

With enough movie magic even reeves and swank look good - just not in this movie where they were supporting. Reeves especially - I bet they need dozens of takes and hours of editing to help him pull it off. I've noticed they try to keep his dialog/cut down to about 5 words, so he _ can _ speak _ without _ a _ pause _ between _ every _ word, like he's reading off cue cards without his glasses.

reply

Oh enough with the boring and predictable Keanu bashing. He's turned in a couple of shockers sure (Bram Stoker's Dracula wasn't his finest moment) but even De Niro has off days.

Reeves was very good here, I doubt anyone working opposite the extraordinarily talented Blanchett could do a poor job.

As for Swank she's serviceable at best. Oscars mean nothing to me. They're worthless when the likes of Jennifer Lawrence and Paltrow are 'honoured' and then actors like Ralph Fiennes, Gary Oldman and Giovani Ribisi don't get a look-in.

I both agree and disagree. I think both are fine actors, but I don't think these were their best performances. Reeves, I think, was cast against type, which is often a good thing, but in this case, I don't think it worked. I don't think he was cast right. Swank I thought was kind of sleepwalking through her performance.

Other than that, I thought everyone did a great job and I really enjoyed the film. Took a bit to get into it, but once it got going, I found it quite engrossing.
