Was I seeing things or was the girl in the bar Penelope Cruz. In 2002 when this was made I would have thought she would not have taken a small part like this. If the girl wasn't PC, then does anyone know who she was?

Yes it was Penelope Cruz. You should try this fascinating site called imdb sometimes. It lists the people that were in the movie along with other facts and tidbits associated with the production.
