Best Movie Ever...

IDK what everyone is rambling about. This movie was so genius. It was halarious and cute. The characters are SUPPOSED to be idiots - HELLO! That's the point. I think the actors did such amazing jobs. I never pictured those four playing such redneck characters. They were amazing. And the lines in the movie were so halarious. You have to watch it a few times just to catch all the smart ass remarks they make.

I wish they would make more movies like this one.

I agree 100%. Couldn't have said it better myself! I love this movie. I don't know how many times I've watched it and laughed till it hurt. The one-liners get me every time. 10/10 in my book.

exactly.

Nobody disagrees about the movie being funny. People just think they sacrificed the "dramatic" aspect of the story in order to make room for the comedy- balance is very important and if you absolutely have to sacrifice one of the two, sacrifice some comedic moments, not moments when the characters show they can be serious too.

Most good comedy movies have a moment or two where everything gets serious to address a serious problem. Waking Up in Reno presented a very serious issue but not a believable or even likeable resolution. Serious minded critics probably thought more than one character got taken advantage of and the movie kind of left it off like that with a very simple minded logic that had me scratching my head for hours.

"Hey, at least it was my best friend." Call me crazy but wouldn't that make it worse?

I understand what you mean, but I thought the fight in the hotel room was great. That was as serious as I needed the movie to get - sometimes I like it when a comedy doesn't have a serious and sappy moment which kills the funny buzz of the movie.

If Natasha and Patrick would have ended up hooking up, I may be whistling a different tune.

No it wouldn't. His acceptance of his best friend being the father of his wife's child was a fairly logical explanation for why the couple were able to stay together and have the baby. It was established that they had tried for a baby for a long time, and the ending voice over said something to the effect that he decided (in coming to terms with the trauma) that having a baby from sperm supplied from his best friend was preferable to conceiving via an anonymous sperm bank donor. It was a rationalization that preserved his marriage, his family and his way of life. And it's plausible that a man could make the same rationalization in real life.

reply

Yeah but even later in the movie we find out that Patrick and Charlize have 3 more babies, proving Patrick's sperm is OK.

This movie definitely worth the money of buying it on DVD!!

Who says violence is not the answer?

This film sat on my shelf for years after I bought it in the clearance bin, but I finally watched it tonight as part of my Patrick Swayze film festival. What a treat!

I've always loved road movies, and this one is both hilarious and oddly touching at the end. It does switch gears rather quickly, but by that point I was so invested in the characters I didn't care.

Normally I'm not crazy about actors faking Southern accents, but the cast here doesn't overdo it by any means. Great film that showcases two careers cut short by life's realities.
