Such an overlooked movie!

With its star studded and hilarious cast, this movie was so overlooked by the public. Yet its so hilariously funny, smart, and cute.

I came across it on TV in the wee small hours, & missed the beginning, unfortunately, but then I saw Johnathan Pryce, then Kathy Bates, then Dan Ackroyd come up on screen, all of whom I rate very highly. Then I recognised Julie Andrews in the 1st shot of her, despite the eye mask....then there was Lynn Redgrave...by now I was hooked.

A quirky & slightly odd film (in a GOOD way) but enormously entertaining. A pity its not much better known.

Same here, brownblur. I had no idea this film existed and, although slightly uneven in tone, i.e. odd, with overly expository dialogue, I really enjoyed it. I can't believe the studios let films like this slip by unnoticed and promote the hell out of utter rubbish.

Ditto....no idea whatsoever

I was just slipping in to bed late last night, I put on channel 4 and I was hooked as soon as I saw Kathy Bates! Damn I laught out loud at parts of this movie!

This film is a great feelgood comedy that slipped by far too easily... I can honestly say it was almost thought provoking :))

Loved it!

I had no intention of watching the whole thing last night on channel 4, I just thought I'll watch the beginning before I go to sleep and then I ended up watching it all. It was great.

I rented the DVD at random about a week ago without ever having heard of the film, and immediately felt the urge to share this little gem with eveyone I know. Needess to say I know have added the film to my permanent DVD collection ... What a great fim!!

reply

hehe I'm shocked how the majority of us were late bed-goers who got hooked by chance, and then all came to imdb to check it out! Genius!

This is one of my favourite movies ever. Absolutely awesome.

So long its bin 4eva,my heart belongs 2u & neva think tht Im not strong enough!

I think all of you were actually asleep and dreamed this movie was good. Had you been awake you would've realized otherwise. This movie should be located in the drama/comedy/musical/science fiction/etc. categories in the rental shops, since it's ALL OVER THE PLACE. There's a good reason it hadn't been discovered - so awful few critics bothered to review it, if they were even allowed to screen it at all. Watch Muriel's Wedding instead, as Hogan hit the right notes with that little gem. This one sounds more like someone draining a spit valve.

If you didn't like it, why watch it all the way through and bother posting?

Tell me you didn't laugh when Maudy jumped on Dirk in the underground and started kissing him...the visual of her little body and his tall one. I got a tear in my eye from laughing.

Well it may have been corny in a place or two but it made me laugh and laugh hard. Anything that can do that now a days has my vote as something to watch. Besides it had Rupert and a shirtless Rupert scene... its good!

The gun down the pants then getting stuck in the fly...? Not even a small chuckle? I watched Muriel's Wedding and Rupert wasn't in it. So thats apples to oranges.

By the way your suggestion to put it in the science fiction section not really ideal. You see science fiction usually deals with something techno or space like, sorry missed that in the movie.. maybe you could point out the scene for me. Oh wait did you think the fire works were science fiction. Sorry sweetie China invented those years ago.

I agree with the others this is a good and overlooked movie.

The fact that it is all over the place and keeps you trying to figure out what the hell is going on is part of what makes me love this movie. My ex picked it up at blockbuster one night because pretty much it was the only thing left and I am so glad she did because it has become one of my favorites.

Muriel's Wedding is another one of my favorites as well as Confetti.

I stumbled across mention of this while I was reading Meredith Eaton's IMDB bio, and the premise and cast caught my attention, so I put it in my Netflix queue. It then sat at my house for over a week as I never found myself in the mood to watch it. Finally, last night my roomie and I decided to give it a try . . . and both wound up practically injuring ourselves from laughing so hard. How something this funny slips through the cracks, but things like White Chicks make millions . . . the mind wobbles.

UL was overlooked because it was never released to theaters in the first place. Which tells us what the studio thought of it. It has that ludicrous plot twist of Rupert & Kathy setting out to nab the killer. And that whole scene with them on Sally Jessie Raphael was truly bizarre.

Having said that, it's still a very entertaining movie. You can't go wrong with Kathy Bates. I've watched UL at least 3 times - it's one of those you can always enjoy again every few years.

I actually found it is a "bargin bin" at a national discount chain. I got it for my Mom for Mother's Day b/c she lvs the cast members. I had never heard of it befor. a month later and I unwrap the celephane and we watched it, mostly because we had seen the movies on TV. We were hooked. It might not be the most thought proking or intelligent movie there is, but it sure is entertaining. I am so surprised it hasn't at least made a little bit of a splash.

I loved this movie. When the DIL was walking in her red, hooded coat, I immediately thought of "Don't Look Now," and then she referred to it.

It's one of those I could watch every few years.

I happened to be up and turned on the TV. I was intrigued by the cast and decided to watch the movie. At first I had no idea in which direction this was going to go. In the end, it was very entertaining, had some great laughs, very good performances. It was kind of all over the place but endearing the way Bollywood films are which combine: comedy, drama, thrillers and musicals. It looked like a fun shoot. Everyone was game and I couldn't help noticing Everett cracking up in the end.

A great movie! The best, amongst many memorable, scenes for me were those involving the little person arriving to clean the apartment and discovering them in bed together. When she runs off and Kathy Bates chases her into the cupboard - they even looked like they couldn't help laughing for real at their own scene. Wonderful underrated movie.

Also, when the little person in the Red Mac is found hiding behind a palet, thinking she can't be seen - oh so good. You've just got to see this movie.

It caused me great pain though!! I laughed so much I cried and had to wipe away the tears - but I had just been cutting up chillies!!!

I saw this movie on Starz once and then every time it was on again Id watch it, finally I decided to ask for it for Christmas.

It cracks me up everytime I watch it. I love her daughter in law and I love Julie Andrews singing, and when they all sing to the crossbow killer. Its just a sweet and delightful movie

I just watched this film and, like most of you, couldn't believe I'd never heard anything about it. It was funny and entertaining and quirky like the comedies of old.

Great cast, silly plot, laugh out loud situations, what more do you want? Shame on the studio's for not giving it a go!
