LOVED THIS FILM!

This movie is awesome
I can not believe it never came to the movie theaters
I am in love with Meredith Eaton as Maudey, she steals this film.
I loved the music, the whole feel was just uplifting.
I ran out and bought it so I could see it again.

I agree! It's been awhile since I found this gem languishing in my local video store, but it was as entertaining a film as I'd ever seen. Who can resist watching Julie Andrews solve every problem by singing Getting To Know You?

A real treasure of a film, especially if you actually remember being freaked out by the dwarf in Don't Look Now, like I did.

Meredith Eaton was the best thing in the movie. Following behind was the classic Julie Andrews in her "Getting To Know You" scene. I was in tears, laughing so hard.

Saw this on the recommendation of a friend. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Is it true that it never was in theaters? How bizarre. Would love to know what the studio execs were thinking. I'm gonna recommend it to all my friends.

i abosultely agree with you, this movie was awesome! I'm actually kind of suprised that it isn't more wlel known than this, considering the fact that it has an alright cast. I bought this movie last year and still laugh everytime i see it. Rupert Everett and Kathy Bates have really good on-screen chemistry i thought..

i just saw this on HBO
Great Film, a bit weird at times, but its surprisingly good.
The opening of the casket scene just cracked me up.

My favorite scene is when Maudie goes in and sees Grace and Dirk in bed.
"AAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
"AAAAAAAAAHHIII"
"Grace has got a boyfriend!"
Grace: No, hes not my boyfriend
"YOu mean he's a stud? A huster?!? Can I try him?
etc. I can recite the whole thing but I wont!

omgosh!!! That's one of my fave parts to! I adored this film and how it had such GREAT lines!!! Like "Don't let me die in a glitter suit!". Whenever I ride the underground I sing that song they sing... I look like a freak but I am hoping to kill a crossbow killer with my cell phone! :)

I saw this movie on HBO when I was going through my own "husband leaving me hell" and immediately bought it because it was the first time I laughed so hard in so long! I love when they are on the bicycle and crash in front of the bar!! The whole movie is just so funny and touching. People see it on my DVD shelf and always ask me, "What is this movie?" and I let them borrow it and they tell me how much they loved it too. And I agree, Meredith Eaton steals the show! When they are in the parking garage and she wears the raincoat because of the horror movie...that is just too funny!

Didn't this come out at about the same time as "Fight Club"? -- which just shows what sells in movie theatres these days.

The film is a loving examination of the "unusual" people in society who are ignored by the vast thoughtless majority yet have human values and hearts.

Older women, mature homosexuals, "little people", they all are represented by major characters who are portrayed as mainstream members of society. Even the much-maligned homeless are seen as human beings, not just dirty tramps to be avoided and shunned

Even feel-good melodic music which is condemned by "cool" people is given its chance. "Can't Live Without You" will definitely last longer than "It's Hard To Be a Pimp Out There."

the scene with kathy bates and rupert everett on the bike made me laugh so hard i cried. when they almost hit the truck and the leaves start slapping him in the face. oh my god. and then when she gets caught in bed with him by her daughter in law. i was like, on the floor in an almost fetal position tryint to keep my head up to see the rest of the movie cause i was still laughing over the bike scene and then that scene started making me laugh. i love this movie just for the simple fact of it made me laugh.

What was the deal with this movie? I saw it in when I was in France but couldn't recognize it, despite the terrific cast. Why was it never shown in theaters? It was funny and very entertaining.

I agree this is an overlooked treasure. It reminds me of the screwball comedies Peter Bogdanovich used to make.

I found a promo screener it in the clearance bin of a record store for $1.99. The screener was released by the Starz network. Was this a cable movie, or did Starz just pick it up after it hit theaters? I don't remember it ever being released.

My husband bought a bunch of movies at one of our local video rental stores. They were having a sale last week end, and this movie was one of them, that he picked out. I just saw it for the first time today. Lately, I have`nt seen too many recent films that I`ve enjoyed as much as this. Oh, I know it`s four years old, but that`s not old,and it was actually fun! We both love Kathy Bates, but I was so surprised and happy to see Jonathon Pryce! I think he`s terrific in anything. Loved him in this!

Terrific. I found this in the library and had never heard of it. It is full of laughs and quirky comedy. What a great cast. One of the funniest scenes was when Kathy Bates, the housewife, has tea with the sisters of the dead singer.
They think she is someone important. Lynn Redgrave's expression when she found out she had taken "a fan" to tea was priceless. I wonder who determined it should not be released on the big screen.

Truly a great movie. One of those little gems which despite its constant genre crossover and twisted and turning plot, it works to create something fun and special.

Zydrate comes in a little glass vial, and the Zydrate goes into the gun like a battery....

I think it's not despite it but because of all the genre crossovers that make this film so wonderful!

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!
