Was this wonderful movie overlooked because of the title??

I absolutely LOVE this movie, surprising I don't remember hearing anything about it when it was first released. Once I had watched it, it was obvious why it was titled "Unconditional Love"...but I am wondering whether that title may have turned a lot of people off rather than on?! Such a shame if that is the case, it's such a lovely movie!

It wasn't released to the movie theatre. It went straight to DVD, so there wouldn't have been a lot of hoopla. Which is a shame. This movie is one of my top faves.

I agree. Awkward title. I understand how it connects to the movie but all the same......

Well, in Sweden, it's called "Who Shot Victor Fox?"... A better title, according to me =)

The edge is where you find out who you really are...

reply

And in Germany it's called Who killed Victor Fox? I don't think the different title helped to sell it, either.

I doubt the title had any effect about whether this movie was deemed worth releasing.

Since it was never released to theaters who would ever have seen it?

The problem was probably the movie companies couldn't imagine the film making any profits. No 'big leading stars.'

I think it's a sweet little gem of a comedy. And it has enchanted everybody I've induced to see it.

Jonathan Pryce, Rupert Everett and Kathy Bates were all wonderful.

I think it was overlooked because it veers too often into silliness (e.g., capturing the crossbow killer, and Sally Raphael). But at the same time it manages to be enormously entertaining, a movie you can watch several times and still enjoy. The always reliable Kathy Bates is perfect in her role.

It was overlooked because it is a mess of a movie that can't decide what genre it is. It flits from incredibly funny to grim and ever so slightly tasteless.
Would the Rupert Everett character REALLY end up doing what he did after his partner had been murdered? I mean , come on. Have the writers ever suffered the loss of a loved one/family member ? None of it made sense. It wasn't believable. And that made all the lovey dovey mush not believable also.

Beautiful movie. I was very surprised when read it was on the shelf three years.
