Looking Forward To It...

I watched The Talented Mr Ripley a while ago now and was deeply satisfied with it, especially since all my friends told me it wasn't worth seeing. Today I watched Ripley's Game and found it to be most entertaining. I knew there were several books by Patricia Highsmith and looked into acquiring them and then I thought I'd look on IMDb to see if a new Ripley movie was in the works. It is, and I'm well chuffed and looking forward to it...

I hate to disappoint, but I saw the rough cut of this movie last night, and it wasn't very good. One of the few perks of living in LA is getting to see some movies before they're released (for free, no less!).

This movie was pretty poorly acted all around, and Barry Pepper made a very unconvincing Ripley. Besides that, the love story portion of the movie is corny, most of the would-be suspenseful moments elicited laughter from the audience, and all the twists were predictable.

I wish I could give you good news, but unfortunately this was a movie that hoped it would seem slick and smart, but ended up being a little tedious and kind of trite. However, what I saw wasn't the final version, so hopefully the filmmakers will take the advice of the audience and focus group and turn this into a good movie.
