Why is this movie so underrated ??

I was so jazzed up about this movie that I got it on Region 2 on Ebay and played it on my computer which is region free (anyone out there have a region 1 copy yet?)

I found it greatly entertaining and it was too bad, in American IMDB fans opinion, that it couldn't stand up against Matt Damon and John Malkovich or for that matter, Dennis Hopper ( who played Ripley in The American Friend , released in the 70s)

To me it was like comparing Christian Bale's Batman to Michael keaton...both played him superbly ( let's try to forget the mistakes with George Clooney and Val Kilmer) but you cannot possibly compare the storylines, as it was two separate producers and directors..and two different time periods (1980s vs 2005)

Barry Pepper is the most entertaining Ripley..Matt Damon played him to perfection as the manipulative loser, maybe Pepper's performance is supposed to be an indicator that Tom Ripley has "diabolically evolved"

Barry Pepper's Ripley is completely one dimensional, not to mention the rest of the actors in this "movie".

Compared to The Talented Mr. Ripley, Ripley Under Ground is a bunch of fluff.

I don't think its underrated, its just an OK film nothing more
