The plot description and the British origin appears to make it a remake of the 1972 version.

I was looking for the original...it was on Monsters HD tonight and I quite enjoyed it...check it out sometime.

We all enjoy the maddness 'cuz we know we're gonna fade away

Not a remake though the original documentary may have given the writer some inspiration.
